Effect of Acupressure on Fatigue in Hemodialysis Patients
End-stage Renal DiseaseOBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupressure on fatigue in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis (HD) as well as assess sleep quality and psychological status HYPOTHESIS TO BE TESTED: Upon intervention completion, the experimental group will exhibit lower severity of fatigue and depression/anxiety and improved sleep quality compared to the control group. DESIGN AND SUBJECTS: A randomized controlled trial with experimental and control groups. A total of 116 patients with ESRD who screen positive for fatigue severity ≥ 4 (using a single-item indicator of fatigue, which ranges from 0 to 10 points) will be recruited. STUDY INSTRUMENTS: Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) INTERVENTION: A 4-week acupressure intervention was performed by the principal investigator (PI) for every subject by applying the rate of two rotations per second, three times a week. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary: fatigue. Secondary: sleep quality, depression, and anxiety. DATA ANALYSIS: Multiple regression was used to analyze between-group differences in BFI and PSQI, while ordinal logistic regression was used to analyze the subscales of the HADS. EXPECTED RESULTS: The proposed acupressure intervention is useful for alleviating fatigue and related symptoms (sleep quality, depression, and anxiety) experienced by patients with ESRD.
Effect of Low Level Laser Therapy in Patients With Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
RhinosinusitisHeadache2 moreThis study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) for Chronic sinusitis in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.
Aromatherapy and Foot Massage on Happiness, Sleep Quality, and Fatigue Levels of Patients With Stroke...
StrokeIschemicBackground: Stroke puts important economic and social loads on the society and was reported to be the most important reason for disability throughout the world. Purpose: The present study aims to experimentally examine the effect of aromatherapy and foot massage on happiness, sleep quality, and fatigue levels of patients with stroke. Material and method: The present study is a randomized clinical study with a control group. Participants were randomly divided into three groups (foot massage + aromatherapy, aromatherapy, and control). The study was carried out with 91 patients diagnosed with stroke. The data were collected using Sociodemographic Status Survey, Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, Piper Fatigue Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS (IBM SPSS Statistics 24) package program. The results were interpreted using frequency tables and descriptive statistics. Foot massage group was given 30min foot massage sessions (3 days per week) for 4 weeks, whereas foot massage + aromatherapy group was given lavender oil inhaler during the foot massage.
Efficacy, Safety, Tolerability of AXA1125 in Fatigue After COVID-19 Infection
Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC) InfectionThis study will compare the effects of AXA1125, an orally active mixture of amino acids, compared to placebo, on improving muscle function (metabolism) following moderate exercise in subjects with fatigue-Predominant Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 as well as the safety and tolerability of AXA1125. Subjects will take one dose of AXA1125 or a placebo twice daily for 28 days.
Acupuncture in the Treatment of Fatigue in Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson DiseaseFatigueThis study evaluates the efficacy of acupuncture in the treatment of fatigue in participants with Parkinson's Disease. Half of participants will receive real acupuncture while the half will receive placebo acupuncture.
Fatigue Intervention Co-design Study in Teenagers and Young Adults With Cancer
FatigueFatigue is one of the most common and distressing symptoms in teenage and young adult cancer patients. Despite this, there has been virtually no research evaluating treatment for cancer-related fatigue in this young patient group. The investigators are undertaking a small qualitative study to co-design a fatigue intervention, that will then be evaluated in future research to assess its effectiveness.
Patient Controlled Administration of Methylphenidate for Cancer Related Fatigue - PRN Methylphenidate...
FatigueThe goal of this clinical research study is to evaluate the effectiveness of ritalin (methylphenidate) taken on an as needed basis for the management of cancer related fatigue. The effects of methylphenidate on pain, mood, and sedation will be evaluated. Researchers will also evaluate the level of fatigue throughout the day and any possible causes of fatigue.
Cyclophosphamide in Myalgic Encephalopathy/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)Significant clinical improvements of ME/CFS symptoms were observed in two patients with long-standing ME/CFS who received adjuvant chemotherapy including cyclophosphamide for breast cancer, also in one ME/CFS patient who received chemotherapy including iphosphamide for Hodgkin lymphoma. Three pilot ME/CFS patients were thereafter treated with six intravenous infusions four weeks apart, in two of these with a significant clinical response. The hypothesis is that a subset of ME/CFS patients have an activated immune system, and that ME/CFS symptoms may be alleviated by treatment with cyclophosphamide as intravenous pulse infusions four weeks apart, six infusions in total. The purpose of the present study is to treat ME/CFS patients with cyclophosphamide as intravenous pulse infusions four weeks apart, six infusions in total. The effects on ME/CFS symptoms and tolerability/side effects during 12 months follow-up will be registered, and additional tests will be performed to objectively register changes in physical ability during follow-up. Studies to investigate possible large vessel endothelial dysfunction and skin microvascular dysfunction will be performed before start of intervention and during follow-up.
Mental Training for CFS Following EBV Infection in Adolescents
Fatigue SyndromeChronic1 moreThe general aim of this study is to investigate the effect of an individually tailored mental training program in adolescents developing chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) after an acute Epstein Barr-virus (EBV) infection. Endpoints include physical activity (primary endpoint), symptoms (fatigue, pain, insomnia), cognitive function (executive functions) and markers of disease mechanisms (autonomic, endocrine, and immune responses).
