Multivitamins do Not Improve Radiation Therapy Related Fatigue
Breast CancerMultivitamins (MVi) are broadly used by cancer patients to improve overall health and energy. Fatigue is a common symptom in cancer patients including those receiving radiation therapy. We conducted a trial of MVi versus placebo in patients with breast cancer (BC) undergoing radiation therapy (Rxt) to evaluate if MVi would affect fatigue and quality of life. We randomized patients at the beginning of Rxt treatment to either placebo or Centrum Silver® (Wyeth-Whitehall laboratory). At the middle of the radiation treatments patients were switched from placebo to MVi and vice versa. Patients answered to the EORTC QLQ C-30 quality of life (QOL) and Chalder Fatigue Questionnaires at the beginning, the time of switching and at the end of Rxt. We found that both groups experienced significant decreases in general and physical fatigue at the end of the course of placebo compared to the assessment prior to this treatment. We also observed significant improvements in functional and symptoms in the patients on placebo. When we compared different groups of patients we also observed significantly lower rates of physical and general fatigue in the patients who had just finished a course of placebo as compared to patients finishing course of MVi. We conclude that MVi do not improve radiation related fatigue, and may in fact have a deleterious effect on fatigue and decrease QOL in patients with BC undergoing Rxt.
A Randomized Study of Polarity or Massage Therapy to Reduce Fatigue in Breast Cancer Patients During...
FatigueThis research study is being conducted to compare the effectiveness of two types of complimentary medicine treatments to see if they will reduce the fatigue experienced by breast cancer patients receiving radiation therapy. The treatments being studied are Polarity Therapy and Massage Therapy. The primary study hypothesis is that Polarity Therapy will be efficacious in relieving fatigue in breast cancer patients receiving radiation treatments. The secondary hypothesis is that Polarity Therapy will be efficacious in improving health-related quality of life in breast cancer patients receiving radiation treatments.
Psychostimulants for Fatigue in Prostate Cancer
FatigueProstate CancerFatigue is one of the most common symptoms of prostate cancer. Fatigue is a lack of energy that makes it harder to do the things you normally do every day. Some symptoms of fatigue are: feeling tired and/or weak; having less interest in activities; having trouble concentrating; feeling "down"; feeling exhausted for no clear reason. There are not many drugs that are helpful in treating fatigue. However, one group of medications does seem to be useful. In this study, we, the investigators at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, will be using a psychostimulant called Ritalin. The aim of this study is to see if this drug is helpful in treating fatigue in prostate cancer. We are also studying the side effects of this medication.
L-Carnitine to Treat Fatigue in AIDS Patients
HIV InfectionsAIDSPatients with AIDS may develop a deficiency of the micronutrient carnitine and such a deficiency may contribute to fatigue in these patients. This study will determine whether carnitine supplementation will improve fatigue and related symptoms in carnitine-deficient patients with AIDS.

Effects of Reflexology in Transplant Patients
Renal TransplantationReflexology2 moreAbstract Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of reflexology on fatigue in kidney transplant patients. Design: The study will be conducted as randomized, controlled and experimental. Method: The data of the research will be collected in the transplant clinic of a foundation university practice and research hospital between 07.12.2020 - 18.06.2021. While the population of the study consisted of 254 patients who underwent kidney transplantation in the transplant unit, 68 patients were included in the sample. The patients included in the study were divided into reflexology (n=34) and control (n=34) groups with the help of a program. Data will be collected using Questionnaire and Piper Fatigue Scale. Chi-square test, Student's t test, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test, correlation, generalized estimation equation and Least Significant Difference tests will be used in the evaluation of the data. Keywords: kidney transplantation, reflexology, fatigue, nursing.
The Effects Of Kiwifruit Consumption On Sleep Quality, Fatigue And BMI Of Saudi Adults
Sleep DisturbanceFatigue1 moreHypothesis: Kiwifruit contains antioxidants and serotonin which may be beneficial in the treatment of sleep disruption. Aim: to assess the effects of daily intake of kiwifruit on sleep quality, fatigue, and BMI among Saudi adults with poor sleep quality. Methods: Twenty-six female participants (14 cases, and 12 controls) were included. All participants were aged ≥18 years and were Saudi and had poor sleep quality. Pregnant, lactating and participants with any chronic diseases such as cardiovascular or neurological diseases, and history of using herbal or medications for inducing sleep for the last two months were excluded. Participants in the case group consumed 2 kiwifruits 1 hour before bedtime nightly for 6 weeks and the control group did not consume kiwifruit. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire was used to assess sleep quality before and after kiwi consumption (score ≥ 5 indicates poor sleep quality), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) was used to assess fatigue and anthropometrics were measured based on the WHO guidelines. After 6 weeks, sleep quality, fatigue and BMI were compared between cases and controls. Kiwifruit consumption may improve sleep quality in adults with self-reported poor sleep quality. Further investigation of the sleep promoting properties of kiwifruit is required.

Understanding Patterns of Fatigue in Health and Disease
MyelomaLong COVID1 moreFatigue is a common symptom and can be the most distressing symptom of a range of medical conditions. This Ecological Momentary Assessment study will investigate lived experiences of fatigue in detail in individuals with myeloma, long COVID, heart failure, and in healthy controls without fatigue. Participants will wear ECG patches and wrist-worn sensors that measure heart rate variability, activity levels, posture, and other parameters. They will self-rate their levels of fatigue four times daily and on-demand (when fatigue levels are noticeably good or troublesome). They will participate in an end of study interview and will have an optional feedback session with a researcher to make sense of the data they have provided.
