Acupuncture and Dry Needling in Peripheral Acute Fatigue Reduction

Sedentary LifestyleMales

Introduction: Neuromuscular fatigue is defined when the muscle becomes incapable of generating muscle power or strength after exercise or long repetitive activities. As well as, the inability to maintain optimum performance and generate maximum voluntary contractions during a physical exercise. When performing physical activity, the body's metabolic response increases proportionally to exercise to satisfy the demands of the human physiological. Part of the energy accumulated during exercise is lost to the environment in the form of heat and another part is maintained internally through the physiological control for thermoregulation. In addition, the muscle generates an electric signal important to determine its status regarding power and fatigue. Objective: To investigate the reduction of acute peripheral fatigue induced by isometric contractions from acupuncture and dry needling techniques, compared to absolute rest. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study and experimental study, with descriptive, analytical and quantitative approach. It follows the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) guidelines. The volunteers will be gathered according to the eligibility criteria, and randomly divided in 3 groups: the control group (G1), the volunteers who will remain in prolonged rest; the acupuncture group (G2), in which volunteers will receive six needles in six acupoints in the non-dominant upper limb and the dry needling group (G3), in which the volunteers will receive application of six needles arranged in the non-dominant biceps brachialis.

CBSM Intervention Via mHealth to Ameliorate HIV-related Fatigue

HIVStress Disorder2 more

The purpose of this study is to create a smartphone, tablet and web-based application to help people deal with stress. Stress often increases fatigue in people with HIV infection, so successfully dealing with stress could help reduce HIV-related fatigue. The study is being done at one site, the Medical University of South Carolina. Approximately 30 people will take part in this portion of the study.

Effects of Nature Exposure Intervention on Soccer Performance Among Mentally Fatigued University...

Mental Fatigue

The current study is going to investigate the nature exposure intervention on the ability of self-regulation and decision-making skills among mentally fatigued soccer players. The subjects will be instructed to view some nature photos, which can facilitate the recovering process for directed attention and the ability of self-regulation. Thus, to see the improvement in decision-making skills.

The Assessment of Fatigue and Quality of Life in Patients With Bone Tumor,

Fatigue SyndromeChronic2 more

The aim of the present observational study is to evaluate and describe the evolution over time of the fatigue and the quality of life of patients with bone tumor, in Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute, Chemotherapy ward, during the chemotherapy treatment and in the first phase of follow-up and to identify possible prognostic factors. Such knowledge is a necessary precondition for identifying patients and the periods most at risk due to the onset of fatigue, so as to be able to hypothesize adequate containment strategies.

Intestinal Microbiota and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Fatigue SyndromeChronic1 more

Gut microbiota of 1) patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and 2) their healthy family members are analyzed. Up to 40 patients with chronic fatigue syndrome are randomized to receive either 1) a faecal transplant from a healthty donor or 2) their own feces via colonoscopy. Patient's health related quality and ability to work are assessed (baseline, 1 and 6 months after the procedure)

A Rehabilitation Program for Adolescents With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The aim of the programme is to develop a treatment model for adolescents with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The program consists of 4 elements lasting for 12 months, psychoeducation reflecting the current knowledge about the disease, Heart Rate Variability Coherence Biofeedback, pacing and activity planning and some principles of cognitive behaviour therapy. The study is designed as a Single-Case study including 10- 15 participants.

B-cell Depletion Using the Monoclonal Anti-CD20 Antibody Rituximab in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue SyndromeMyalgic Encephalomyelitis

Based on pilot patient observations, and experience from the prior study KTS-1-2008, the investigators anticipate that chronic fatigue syndrome patients may benefit from B-cell depletion therapy using Rituximab induction with maintenance treatment. The hypothesis is that at least a subset of CFS patients have an activated immune system involving B-lymphocytes, and that prolonged B-cell depletion may alleviate symptoms.

B-lymphocyte Depletion Using Rituximab in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalopathy (CFS/ME)....

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalitis (CFS/ME)

The hypothesis is that a subgroup of patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ Myalgic Encephalopathy (CFS/ME) have a chronically activated immune system and may benefit from B-lymphocyte treatment using the monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody rituximab with induction and maintenance treatment.

FatigueIron Deficiency

The purpose of this study is to determine the subjective response of iron substitution (Tardyferon®) on fatigue in women blood donors with a mean serum ferritin < 30ng/ml and to assess variation of ferritin and hemoglobin after a blood donation.
