Prevalence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome in Sarcoidosis and Impact of CPAP Treatment on Associated...

SarcoidosisSleep Apnea2 more

Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic granulomatous disease that affects individuals worldwide without known pathogenesis, and the role of comorbidities has not been fully assessed in the scientific literature. An increased incidence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) has been described in Sarcoidosis although this association has not been explained yet and no data is available about the effect of treatment with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) in Sarcoidosis. Also, patients affected by Sarcoidosis usually experience a state of physical and mental weariness called fatigue and reported in approximately 60-80% sarcoid patients and thought to be a consequence of inflammatory mediators but the high prevalence of OSAS could be a remarkable bias in clinical evaluation because fatigue is also strongly associated with sleep disorders. Thus, there is a real need for assessing not only the real prevalence of OSAS in Sarcoidosis but also the effect of CPAP treatment on fatigue status experienced by sarcoidotic patients.

Short Interventions to Prevent Trapezius Muscle Fatigue in Computer Work

Muscle FatigueTrapezius Muscle Strain

This study is expected to demonstrate that during experimental days of seated computer work sustained and focalized low-level muscle activity contributes to the development of long-lasting fatigue effects (and thus possible disorder). On days with and without frequent interruptions, signs of fatigue and the activity pattern of the trapeze muscle are registered and compared using electromyographic registrations of the trapezius muscle.

Safety and Efficacy of Droxidopa for Fatigue in Patients With Parkinsonism

Parkinson DiseaseMultiple System Atrophy1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of Droxidopa for the treatment of fatigue in patients with Parkinsonism by the Visual Analog Fatigue Scale (VAFS). This is a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial for 3 months where half the subjects will receive placebo and the other half will receive Droxidopa. Following this will be a wash-out period of 7 days and then all subjects will receive Droxidopa for 3 months during the open-label phase.

Whole-Body Vibration Training and Pilates Exercises for Healthy Women

Healthy LifestyleBody Weight1 more

This study aimed to compare the effects of whole-body vibration (WBV) training and Pilates exercises on physical fitness, fatigue, and physical self-perception in healthy women. This study was carried out on 36 healthy sedentary female subjects. Subjects were divided into three groups; Pilates training group, WBV training group, and control group. In the Pilates group, the exercises were performed with "Reformer®" for eight weeks, twice in a week, 45-min per day. In the WBV group, the training was given "Power Plate®" for eight weeks, twice in a week, and 30 minutes in a day. The control group did not receive any training.

Utility and Validity of a High-intensity, Intermittent Exercise Protocol

Fatigue

The purpose of this study is to identify an exercise-induced fatigue protocol to mimic central and peripheral acute fatigue effects associated with participation in vigorous dynamic sports activities and to understand the expected central (cardiovascular) and peripheral (muscular) impact of this protocol.

Hot and Cold Compress in Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis ComplicationMuscle Spasm1 more

Aims and objectives. To examine and compare the effects of hot and cold compresses administration on muscle cramps, fatigue, and comfort in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Background. Muscle cramps and fatigue are common complications in HD patients and reduce patient comfort. Among the nursing interventions stated for the management of these complications in the literature, hot and cold therapy are remarkable. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first research up to date that examined and compared the effects of hot and cold compress administrations on abovementioned complications in HD. Design. This placebo-controlled randomized trial was conducted in two hemodialysis centers between February and October 2020. Methods. The study sample consisted of 69 patients, stratified and randomly allocated to two intervention groups and placebo group. For patients of each group, the implementation of the study continued for four weeks, 12 HD sessions.

Mental Fatigue and Industrial Work Performance

HealthyMental Fatigue2 more

To investigate the effect of mental fatigue on industrial work performance, biomechanical determinants, (electro-)(psycho-) physiological measures and physical ergonomics. Additionally, the current project wants to evaluate whether or not the Laevo exoskeleton influences the aforementioned parameters when mental fatigue is acutely induced.
