Epidemiological Studies of Eating Disorders in Gifted Dance Students(1st Year)

This is the first-year part of a two-phase prospective study. The aims of the study are to investigate the prevalence rate of eating disorders in Taiwan, it's correlated psychosocial risk factors and establish the validity index of BITE. The study subjects consist of Taiwanese gifted dance high school students and age, sex, school-matched ordinary class students. All students completed questionnaires(Eating Altitude Test(EAT-26), Bulimic Investigatory Test, Ediburgh (BITE), Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ), Physical Appearance Related Teasing Scale, Pubertal Develoment Scale, and Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS) at first phase. All subjects who are above threshold (EAT-26 score≧20 and BMI≦17.5m2; the symptom scale score of BITE≧15 and/or severity scale≧5),and 10% of the sub-threshold cases need to receive second-phase interview by two senior psychiatrists. The contents of interview included SCID-IP, and risk factors assessment for eating disorders. The known risk factors included both personal factors (history of obesity, psychiatric, menstruation, teasing, or sexual or physical abuse, etc.) as well as family factors (parental problems, history of obesity, dieting, psychiatric illness etc.). Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 10.0 for Windows/PC. Categorical data were analyzed by nonparametric test (Chi-square test). ANOVA or Student's t-test was used for continuous data analyses. Reliability is assessed by internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Inter-rater reliability was assessed by Kappa statistics. The sensitivity and specificity for eating disorders were calculated for individual screening instrument.ROC analyses were undertaken to evaluate the overall performance of the BITE +/- EAT in detecting eating disorder cases. Regression analysis was applied to determine predictors of disordered eating or eating disorder status. A value of P< 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

The authors hypothesize that adjusted individual feeding (AIF) for preterm infant starting from transition to oral feeding (33 weeks corrected age) will result in less episodes of apnea/bradycardia, early achievement of full oral feeding, improved weight gain and shorten hospitalization duration in the short term. In the long term AIF will result in higher scores on the Griffith's developmental scales, decreasing parental anxiety and feeding disorders .

Emotion Regulation in Binge Eating and Purging Among Adolescents

The study will examine the neural and behavioral correlates of emotion regulation in adolescents engaging in binge eating and/or purging and healthy adolescents. Furthermore, it will look at the influence of executive function on emotion regulation in this population. This study will allow us to gain further understanding of the neural basis of emotion regulation in this age group. Moreover, this study supports the need to develop new treatment approaches based on a better understanding of the brain processes associated with eating disorders.

Since March 17, 2020, the French government has implemented national containment measures due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Quarantine is an unpleasant experience : Separation from relatives, loss of liberty, concern about the infectious status, boredom, can negatively affect mental health, with the emergence of anxiety and depressive symptoms. In addition, confinement can disrupt usual physical activity, a major destabilization criterion for patients suffering from eating disorders (ED). Finally, conditions of confinement can harm social support, yet identified as a protective and resilience factor in stress contexts. Thus, the current context of confinement and social distances could be source of an increase in eating behavior disorders symptoms in people suffering from ED.

Impact of Neuropsychological Alteration of Patients With Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are multifactorial disorders currently conceptualized in a biopsychosocial model, but pathophysiology remains relatively unknown, and robust etiological models to guide treatment are therefore lacking. Different endophenotypes and neurocognitive vulnerability factors have been found in eating disorders including decision making abnormalities. The investigators hypothesize that decision making abnormalities are associated with a lower level of functioning and quality of life which could lead to social and interpersonal difficulties. The investigators also hypothesize that these anomalies are associated with a particular clinical profile (more restrictive profile, more hyperactivity, less insight on the disease and desire for care ...).
