Patient Satisfaction With Virtual Post Operative Visits: Hip Arthroscopy

Femoroacetabular Impingement

This is a prospective, randomized study designed to evaluate the effects of different initial postoperative follow-up modalities. Given the nature of the study, it is not possible for either the surgeons or the subjects to be blinded. Patients will be assigned to either group based on the last digit of their medical record number (MRN). Patients with an even-ending medical record number will be randomized to virtual visit/telemedicine, while patients with an odd-ending medical record number will be randomized to the office visit.

Since last past decade, arthroscopic hip surgery proved its efficacy in femoroacetabular impingement treatment. However, no consensus exist concerning capsular suture or not. According to capsular incision size, articular instability can persist if no suture is performed. In contrast, tightly suture can cause post-operative joint stiffness. This study aims to evaluate the non inferiority of non capsular suture after hip arthroscopy treatment of cam or mixed-type femoroacetabular impingement, without hip dysplasia, after 2 years follow-up.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has proven to be one of the best ways to image articular cartilage. A tremendous amount of research has focused on cartilage imaging with an emphasis of early-osteoarthritis (OA) characterization. One of the techniques which has shown great promise is the imaging technique called T1ρ . The advantage of this pulse sequence is that it is sensitive to proteoglycans (PG), a major macromolecule degraded in OA. The study objective is to determine if T1ρ can acutely assess PG content in femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) which may allow physicians to differentiate between normal and early-OA cartilage states in FAI patients.

PRCT of FICB vs LAI for Hip Arthroscopy

A prospective randomised controlled trial involving patients undergoing hip arthroscopy. Participants were randomised to receiving either Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block (FICB) or Local Anaesthetic Infiltration (LAI) of the portal tracts with local anaesthetic. Supplemental analgesia was also used in both groups on an on-demand basis. Pain level is assessed at 1,3,6, and 24 hours post surgery. The primary outcome measure was the post-operative level of pain as assessed by Numeric Pain Score 6 hours after surgery. Secondary outcome measures were the frequency and the dose of morphine and other medications consumed at 1 and 24 hours after surgery as well as any other adverse events relating to pain or medications used for pain relief in both the groups.

This prospective study with a two-group comparison design investigates the effectiveness of 12-weeks of semi-structured and supervised physiotherapist-led treatment on self-reported hip and groin function in patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome with and without intra-articular hip pain. Determination of intra-articular hip pain is based on pain relief following an ultrasound-guided intra-articular anesthetic hip injection performed prior to commencing treatment.

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of arthroscopic surgery versus physiotherapy and activity modification for the treatment of this condition.
