Epidemiology and Risk Factors of Uterine Fibroids in China

Uterine Fibroid

Uterine fibroids are the most common form of benign uterine tumors in the uterine muscle layer, which had a certain rate of malignancy, but it is rare. The prevalence of uterine fibroids estimates range from 4.5% to 68.6% depending on study population and diagnostic methodology. The prevalence of fibroids has been historically underestimated by epidemiologic studies which focused mainly on symptomatic women, leaving behind a large population of asymptomatic women and women who underreport their symptoms. What investigators don't know was which women who have fibroids will develop clinical symptoms and which women who have an operation of myomectomy will relapse. The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence, incidence and risk factors for the development of uterine fibroids in Chinese women.

a Study to Evaluate Adhesion Risk in Fertility Patients' Status Post Laparoscopic Myomectomy.

Uterine FibroidsInfertility

Premenopausal Women ages 18-42 will undergo a laparoscopic myomectomy. Prior to the myomectomy, adhesions will be assessed using a modified AFS scoring technique. All investigators will provide usual and customary care to research subjects during the first look laparoscopy. This includes the use of all standard practice anti-adhesive agents and heparinized irrigation fluids.V-Loc 180 suture will be utilized in all patients. All patients will then be evaluated by means of a second look laparoscopy (SLL) 6-12 weeks after the initial surgery and reevaluated via modified American Fertility Society scoring techniques. An independent reviewer will also score adhesions utilize a video recording made from the second look laparoscopic surgery. Patients will be contacted both 1 and 4 weeks post -op and assessed for complications. It is the expectation that patients will show no greater post-operative adhesion formation and a <1% complication rate. Time and ease of suturing will also be evaluated. It is expected that the V-Loc suturing technique will show significantly reduced suturing time, be easier to use, and will be associated with minimal adhesions.

Implementation of Uterine Fibroid Option Grid Patient Decision Aids Across Five Organizational Settings...

Uterine Fibroid

UPFRONT is a study that aims to use two implementation frameworks - the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research and the Normalization Process Theory - to guide the implementation of a uterine fibroid patient decision aid, known as Option Grid, at five diverse gynecology settings across the United States. Option Grid provides evidence-based information on the various treatment options to help women across socioeconomic strata with symptomatic uterine fibroids make a preference-sensitive decision.
