QEEG and Qualitative EEG for the Identidification of Abnormal Patterns in Fibromyalgia Patients...

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a relatively young condition recently recognized by the WHO as a separated clinical entity. Part of the medical comunity thinks of it as a mixed condition between depresion and rheumatic pain, however, functional data provided by sophisticated imaging techniques points at a diminished brain activity in several brain regions. The present study aims to characterize those findings by means of QEEG in order to establish the electroencephalographic characteristics of fibromyalgia patients.

Quantitative EEG During PSG in Patients With and Without Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

The purpose of this study is to retrospectively analyze Clinical and Nocturnal Polysomnographic Data (Overnight Sleep Studies) in patients with and without Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a pain syndrome associated with dysfunctional sleep, fatigue, frequent awakenings, non-refreshing sleep, and alpha frequency intrusions. Quantitative EEG during routine Nocturnal Polysomnography can be used to assess Alpha/Delta sleep. Hypothesis: Alpha intrusions may be an objective marker for Fibromyalgia and may correlate with current clinical American College of Rheumatology Criteria for the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia.

Association Between Hypermobility and Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

HypermobilityJoint4 more

Study hypothesis:- Benign joint hyper mobility syndrome which persists into adulthood is a special type of benign joint hyper mobility which is more likely to predispose to chronic musculoskeletal pain. Young Indian adults aged between 25 and 40 years who are blood donors or relatives of patients admitted as inpatient or presenting to the out patient department, in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences will be enrolled, after excluding the exclusionary criteria. They will be assessed for the presence of chronic musculoskeletal pain using a validated self filled questionnaire. The primary investigator who will be blinded to their response will examine them for the presence of Benign Joint Hyper mobility Syndrome and for tender points suggestive of fibromyalgia. Primary Objective:- To determine whether chronic musculoskeletal pain is associated with Hypermobility among Indian adults. Study design:- Cross sectional survey

Computerized Cognitive Testing in Patients Suffering From Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a highly prevalent condition, often affecting individuals at the prime of life, causing severe reduction of quality of life and productivity, as well as social isolation, anxiety and depression. FMS is a condition characterized by chronic widespread pain, considered to be a manifestation of central nervous system sensitization, leading to increased processing and transmission of pain. At the same time however, it has become gradually more evident, that FMS is not merely a pain syndrome. Those patients who suffer from the full-blown clinical syndrome of FMS inevitably describe many additional symptoms beside pain. While some of these symptoms, such as heightened sensitivity to external stimulations (e.g. noise and light), can easily be understood as representing aspects of the basic underlying propensity towards central sensitization, other symptoms are not so easily explained in this context.

A Brain Imaging Study of Tai Chi on Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

To accomplish our Specific Aims, we propose to conduct a two-session fMRI experiment in up to 30 patients with fibromyalgia (FM) and up to 30 healthy controls. All subjects will be invited to complete the second, identical fMRI session about 3 months following completion of the first session. Fibromyalgia subjects will complete their scans before and after a 12-week Tai Chi intervention in collaboration with Tufts Medical Center.

Predictive Models on Pain and Severity in FM Patients

Fibromyalgia

The primary goal of this research project is to develop different prediction models in fibromyalgia disease through the application of machine learning techniques and to assess the explainability of the results. As specific objectives the research project intends: to predicting Fibromyalgia severity of patients based on clinical variables; to assess the relevance of social-psycho-demographic variables on the fibromyalgia severity of the patients; to predict the pain suffered by the patients as well as the impact of the fibromyalgia on patient's life; to categorize fibromyalgia group of patients depending on their levels of Fibromyalgia severity.

Effects of a Clinical Dietary Intervention During Inpatient Treatment

Metabolic SyndromeOsteoarthritis5 more

The purpose of the study is a scientific and prospective documentation of the clinical effects of an inpatient treatment at the Immanuel Hospital of Berlin, in the department for complementary and integrative medicine, with the use of a modified fasting regime. A pre- and post- as well as group comparisons are planned. Patients that are admitted to the inpatient department for metabolic syndrome, osteoarthritis of the hip or knee, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia will be enrolled in the study.
