Hyperbaric Oxygen Compared to Pharmaceutical Therapies for Fibromyalgia Syndrome

The investigators have previously studied the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as a treatment for Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) in a prospective, active control, crossover clinical trial. The results demonstrated significant amelioration of all FMS symptoms, with significant improvement in life quality; furthermore, the investigators were able to demonstrate significant neuroplasticity on SPECT imaging, with a decrease of the hyperactivity in posterior regions and elevation of the reduced activity in frontal areas. In the proposed study, the investigators intend to both repeat and expand our previous findings, treating FMS patients with HBOT while performing an extensive of evaluation both before and after treatment. In the current study, the investigators plan to compare HBOT to current standard of care of FMS (pharmacological and non - pharmacological).

Immediate Stiffness Changes in Myofascial Trigger Points After Dry Needling

Shear-wave elastography (SWE) is considered as a useful tool for quantifying muscle stiffness. Considering that Myofascial Trigger Points (MTrP) are defined as "hyperirritable zones in contracted bands of muscle, thought to be caused by muscle overload or stress" and the effectiveness of dry needling applied to active MTrP for reducing pain and disability, the aim of this study is to assess the effects of sham and real dry needling, applied to active MTrP in the upper trapezius muscle in patients with chronic neck pain, on the muscle stiffness in two areas: 1) the most symptomatic area and 2) a control point.

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a chronic rheumatic disease characterized by a wide range of symptoms such as widespread muscle pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, anxiety-depression, impaired balance, falling risk, poor physical condition, cognitive dysfunction, and irritable bowel syndrome. The aim of the study; It is a comparison of the effectiveness of aerobic exercises and postural stabilization exercises that are structured to reduce the pain severity, fatigue, sleep problems and anxiety-depression levels of patients who are being followed up with a diagnosis of FMS, and to increase the duration of physical activity and quality of life.

Connective Tissue Massage With Fibromyalgia

The aim of the study was to examine the effectiveness of clinical pilates exercises and connective tissue massage in individuals with Fibromyalgia (FM). 32 women were randomly divided into two groups as intervention (n=15, mean age=48.80±7.48) and control (n=17, mean age=55.64±7.87). While connective tissue massage and clinical pilates exercises were applied to the intervention group, control group were applied only clinical pilates exercises.According to our results, connective tissue massage increased the effectiveness of clinical pilates exercises in individuals with FM.

Hyperthermia in Fibromyalgia Syndrome

This study will examine the effectiveness of water-filtered whole-body hyperthermia during an outpatient setting in patients with fibromyalgia. The duration of the study is about 3 weeks with two treatment units per week and a passive period (follow-up measurement) of 24 weeks after the outpatient setting.

Efficacy of Dry Needling Treatment in Myofascial Pain Syndrome

The aim of this study is to investigate the short and long-term effects of dry-needling of participants with trigger points in the upper trapezius muscle. 64 participants who diagnosed with myofascial pain syndrome will be included in the study. All participants will have trigger points in the upper trapezius muscles. They are randomised into two groups: dry needling (n=32) and exercise group (n=32). Ultrasonographic evaluation of trigger points (diameter, circumference and area), pain intensity and neck disability will be evaluated as primary outcome. Active cervical range of motion will be evaluated as secondary outcome.

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of the Remedee Solution in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic and complex condition with symptoms that have a strong impact of patients' quality of life, including musculoskeletal pain, insomnia, fatigue, and stiffness. These symptoms are due to a dysfunction of the central nervous system, namely increased sympathetic and decreased parasympathetic levels of activity, and a deficit in endogenous pain inhibition. Remedee Labs is developing a unique technology using millimeter waves to stimulate subcutaneous nerve receptors of the wrist, sending a message to the brain, which in turn releases endorphins. These endorphins induce a hypoalgesic effect and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces pain, stress, and improves sleep. The Remedee Solution evaluated in this study is a wristband designed to deliver millimeter wave, a mobile application that allows the patient to follow his treatment sessions and a personalized support which aims to improve patient adherence to the technology and to increase compliance and effectiveness of the treatment. The hypothesis of this study is that regular use of the Remedee Solution for three months improves the quality of life of fibromyalgia patients.

Comparison of Muscle Energy Techniques and Breathing Exercises for Functional Improvement in Fibromyalgia...

This study is planned to compare the effects of Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) with breathing exercises for improving functional outcomes in patients with fibromyalgia. A randomized controlled trial will be conducted. Sample size would be 26 patients with fibromyalgia randomly allocated to the Muscle energy techniques group and breathing exercise group. Both the groups will receive 8 weeks of treatment, 3 times per week. Data will be collected at baseline 5th week and 8th week. Outcome measurements include a Numeric pain rating scale, 6 min walk test, chest expansion, Pittsburgh sleep quality index, and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scores.
