Effects of Creatine Supplementation in Women With Knee Osteoarthritis and Fibromyalgia

Knee OsteoarthritisFibromyalgia

The purpose of this study is to determine whether creatine associated or not to exercise training can improve physical performance in patients with knee osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.

Study of T3 for the Treatment of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Determine if T3 - the active form of thyroid hormone - is beneficial in fibromyalgia. Determine the feasibility and promise of an appropriately powered future prospective randomized controlled study of using T3 (the active form of thyroid hormone) for the treatment of fibromyalgia. We specifically aim to assess the feasibility, cost, obstacles and promise of conducting a prospective controlled study in the future.

Efficacy and Safety of Eslicarbazepine Acetate as Therapy in Subjects With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

This was a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicentre, multinational, Phase II study in 528 subjects with pain due to Fibromyalgia syndrome(FMS). Subjects were randomised in a 1:1:1:1 ratio to receive placebo, Eslicarbazepine acetate (ESL) 400 mg once daily (QD), ESL 800 mg QD or ESL 1200 mg QD. The study was carried out as follows.

Discomfort and Psychosocial Difficulties in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

The patients who were not pain control, are referred to the Chronic Pain Unit so its complexity is greater. Made two different interventions in three groups of people with fibromyalgia. In the first group will proceed to infiltrate the painful area with medication, in the second GPST (Group Problem Solving Technique) and the third group both techniques. GPST will want to identify problems that people associate with fibromyalgia, as well as proposed solutions and it they have been carried out successfully or not. Will be essential to identifying and solving problems and using techniques to increase assertiveness, self-esteem and eliminating negative thoughts. Observing if after performing any of these techniques (infiltration, GPST or both) there is a better quality of life, reduce thoughts of suicide, pain and improves sleep quality. We also analyzed the satisfaction or not with therapies received and perceived usefulness.

Kinesio Taping in Subjects With Myofascial Pain Syndrome: a Randomized Controlled Trial

Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Musculoskeletal dysfunction is considered as a major public health problem affecting about one third of the adult population. Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) characterized by myofacial trigger points as well as fascia tenderness are thought to be the main cause of musculoskeletal dysfunction. The aim of the treatment for musculoskeletal dysfunction is to reduce pain and restore normal function. Clinically, some evidence supports the application of kinesio tape in these patients. The underlying mechanism, however, is not clear. The investigators goal was to validate proposed mechanism of kinesio tape in these patients. The primary outcome are muscle stiffness, pain intensity and sensitivity.

A New Rehabilitation Tool in Fibromyalgia

FibromyalgiaPain

The aim of the investigators study was to measure reductions in chronic pain in female patients with Fibromylgia comparing individual proprioceptive rehabilitation treatments with perceptual surfaces to a group exercises rehabilitation. Fibromyalgia is a generalized chronic pain condition that is usually accompanied by fatigue, sleep disturbance and psychological and cognitive alterations.

Investigation of AVACEN Thermal Exchange System for Fibromyalgia Pain

Fibromyalgia

Hypothesis: Daily use of the AVACEN Thermal Exchange System for 4 weeks will show improved Fibromyalgia pain and functioning markers, as assessed by biomarkers and clinical and psychological assessment. This non-invasive device is able to rapidly raise the core body temperature of the user by placing a hand in a vacuum chamber and resting it upon a heating element. The change in body temperature may change the sympathetic nervous system's activity and thereby reduce Fibromyalgia pain.

Fibromyalgia and Specific Physical Activity

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a common, expensive and controversial condition, one of whose origins would be central nervous system sensitization to pain. Usual treatment consists of multimodal care including physical activity. This dosage should be adapted to the patient's health needs. Currently recommended physical exercise is aerobic work associated with muscle reinforcement, without evidence of superiority of the efficacy of one over the other. Recommended dosage for aerobic exercises is 20 minutes (or twice 10 minutes), two to three times a week (70 - 80% of Theoretical Maximum Heart Rate). At the Vendee Departmental Hospital Center (CHD), adapted physical activity is proposed to fibromyalgia patientsby the associative group "Siel Bleu". This physical activity, performed with patients suffering from different pathologies, is non specific for fibromyalgia context. In parallel, a preliminary study showed the interest of a lifestyle coaching for fibromyalgia patients, performed by physiotherapists, nurses and coaches specifically trainede. Another possibility seems to be personalized coaching with a physical activity adapted to the physical and organizational constraints of the patient, and specific to pathology. This solution would make it possible to adapt to the patient's choice of physical activities, to ensure a better adaptation to their physical and organizational constraints as well as a better individualized follow-up.

Estrogens Effect on Pain in Postmenopausal Women Suffering of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

In order to evaluate the potential effects of estrogen treatment in postmenopausal women with fibromyalgia, the investigators used quantitative sensory tests before and after eight weeks of estrogen treatment as compared with placebo treatment.

Analgesic Effect of Music Listening During Pain Elicitation in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Patients with fibromyalgia (FM) are more sensitive to things that cause pain. Music lowers self-reported pain in patients with chronic pain. The investigators are able to measure pain sensitivity and pain tolerance using tools that cause pain and give accurate measurements of how much pressure is put on the body (QST). Previous studies have shown that after a few minutes of listening to music patients with FM have less self-reported pain, can get up and move from sitting more quickly, and have more activity in part of the brain that tells the body to stop sending pain signals. The investigators will study 40 patients with FM using the QST tools. All patients will have testing done as usual, with no sound. Then half of the patients will have testing done while listening to instrumental Classical music, and the other half will have testing done while listening to nature sounds. The investigators will test 1) whether listening to anything lessens pain compared to listening to nothing at all; and 2) whether listening to music lessens pain more than listening to nature sounds. Our study will be the first to study whether objectively measured pain sensitivity is less while listening to music in these patients.
