Shared Decision Making in Older Adults With Distal Radius Fractures
Radius FractureThis is a study to investigate the use of a Decision Aid for shared decision making in older adults with distal radius fractures. The goal is to improve patient decisions making, and improve patient knowledge through the use of a validated decision aid.
Treatment of Distal Radius Buckle Fractures
Fracture TreatmentThis study determines if patients with buckle fractures of the distal radius and/or ulna treated with supportive care only demonstrate non-inferior outcomes in regard to pain control during healing, functional outcome at the wrist joint, and parental satisfaction, when compared with patients treated with the standard treatment regimen of 3-4 weeks in a short arm cast.
A Two Centre Study to Assess the Stability and Long-term Performance of the C-Stem™ AMT in a Total...
Rheumatoid ArthritisOsteoarthritis7 moreThe purpose of this study is to monitor the stability of the C-Stem™ AMT hip within the thigh bone when used in the treatment of patients with hip joint disease requiring a total hip replacement. Patients who enter the study will be evaluated at regular intervals following hip surgery using patient, clinical, standard x-ray assessments and special x-rays which allow the stability of the implant to be determined.
Treatment of Type I Supracondylar Fractures of the Humerus
Type I Supracondylar Fracture of the HumerusType I supracondylar fractures are elbow fractures that occur in children aged 3-10 years. Many different treatment options exist to treat this type of fracture. The purpose of this study is to compare three different treatment modalities with regards to pain experienced during treatment, the amount of pain medication needed during treatment, and any short-term complications. We hypothesize that above elbow casting and long-arm splinting will result in less pain and have fewer complications than taping the elbow in flexion.

Rheumatoid ArthritisOsteoarthritis7 moreThe purpose of this study is to monitor the performance of the Summit™ hip in the treatment of patients with hip joint disease requiring a total hip replacement. Patients who enter the study will be evaluated at regular intervals following hip surgery using patient, clinical and x-ray assessments.
Comparison of Subcutaneous INFIX and EXFIX for Anterior Pelvic Ring Fractures Requiring Stabilization...
Anterior Pelvic Ring FracturesThe purpose of this research is to compare patient outcomes of two treatment methods that are currently used as standard of care to treat anterior pelvic ring injuries that require stabilization. The two treatment methods are subcutaneous internal fixation (INFIX) and external fixation (EXFIX). Patients will be given the opportunity to opt out of randomization and participate in one of the observational arms. The first observational arm is comprised of those patients who do not want to randomize and they will undergo anterior pelvic ring stabilization according to the treating surgeon's discretion. The second observational arm will be comprised of patients who consent to be in the study but whose pelvic ring fractures do not require any form of anterior pelvic internal fixation based on the treating surgeon's opinion.
Proximal Humerus Fractures Randomized Control Trial
Proximal Humerus FractureThe primary objective is to determine if a difference exists in functional outcomes, as measured by the Constant score, when comparing nonoperative management and locking plate surgical fixation of low-energy displaced proximal humerus fractures in the elderly population over a 2-year follow-up period. Secondary outcomes will include an assessment of the ASES score, the SF-36 quality of life score, complication rates, re-operation rates, radiographic time to union, radiographic malunion, hardware position and evidence of avascular necrosis or posttraumatic osteoarthritis .
Union Rate of Transverse Tibia Fracture
Closed Transverse Fracture of Shaft of TibiaThe investigators will compare the three methods of seating a tibial nail - Backslapping or Backslapping with Dynamic Locking or Internal Compression.
Randomized Fracture Liaison Services
Osteoporosis FractureAims: To compare clinical outcomes for patients under FLS and usual care at the NTUH MH and BB. Method: Four hundred subjects with new hip fracture or newly identified vertebral fracture are randomly assigned into FLS and usual care (UC). FLS subjects received osteoporosis-related assessments, treatments, consultations on diet, medications, exercise, fall preventions given mainly by care managers with followed up telephone call at 4, 8, 12, 18, 24 months then annually for up to 10 years. Care managers will perform baseline assessments and follow them by telephone annually for up to 10 years for UC subjects. Major outcomes include bone mineral density assessment rate, calcium, vitamin D, and osteoporosis medication initiation and adherence rate, fall and fracture incidences, mortality, and healthcare resource utilizations.
"The Length of Cervical Collar Treatment for Traumatic Sub-axial Fractures"
Collar Treatment of Stable Subaxial Spine FracturesMost fractures of the cervical spine are considered stable and treated with a rigid cervical collar. However no studies have to date been published addressing the length of treatment. There seems to be a significant dissimilarity between hospitals within and between countries with the length of collar treatment varying from 6 to 12 weeks. At the neurosurgical department at Oslo University Hospital, Ullevål the standard length of treatment for a stable cervical fracture is 12 weeks. This study seeks to establish whether 6 weeks of collar treatment for a specific subtype of stable fractures in the cervical spine is sufficient.
