Frailty Assessment in Vascular Hot Clinic Setting - Feasibility and Prognostic Value

FrailtyFrail Elderly Syndrome1 more

A single-centre prospective study of feasibility assessing the suitability of introducing routine frailty screening in a controlled, and reproducible, outpatient department setting for Vascular Surgery patients. This study will also perform head-to-head comparisons of the prognostic value of five frailty assessment tools, selected based on the previous demonstration of their popularity and familiarity within the speciality, their designs being based on different theories of frailty and that some are endorsed by local healthcare police. Inter-user variability (patient self assessment and clinician assessment will also be compared).

Both Short- and Long-term Outcome Differences According to Patient Frailty

Frailty

The evaluation for cancer treatment successful has been used by overall survival rate and/or postoperative complications, especially surgical area. Now postoperative QOL has been more importantly required. Therefore this study was conduced to investigate the association between postoperative outcomes and patients frailty.

Frailty and Postoperative Outcomes After Gastric Cancer Surgery

Gastric CancerFrail Elderly Syndrome2 more

Background. Gastric cancer is an important health care problem even though treatment advances, and it is diagnosed mainly in elderly. Surgery is the main treatment for gastric cancer and is associated with a high rate of postoperative complications and mortality, even higher in older patients. Chronological age seems not to be the main factor influencing the worse outcome of older patients, comorbidities and frailty have also been taken into account recently. Methods. Participation in the study will be offered to all centers that are currently part of the Spanish EURECCA (EUropean REgistry of Cancer CAre) Esophagogastric Cancer Registry. The impact of the frailty on different outcome variables will be evaluated. The main outcome variable will be 90-day mortality after the intervention. Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) will also be evaluated. Objective. The objective of the study is to value the impact of frailty on gastric cancer surgery outcomes therein the Spanish EURECCA Esophagogastric Cancer Registry.

Prevalence, Determinants and Natural History of Frailty and Pre-frailty in Elderly People

FrailtyFrailty Syndrome6 more

Frailty syndrome (i.e. frailty) is a geriatric syndrome which relies on the reduction of multisystem reserve capacity. Frail people have a lower potential to respond to external stressors and various life incidents as well as they present a weak prognosis particularly in cardiovascular diseases. Yet, frailty is not only a set of physical deficits, but it also concerns psychological and social dimensions of human functioning. Hence, an approach to frailty should be multidimensional because such a concept more adequately reflects a functional degradation in the elderly. Frailty is usually associated with the impaired condition of circulatory system, and therefore, an identification of subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities is paramount in the frailty prevention and treatment. Another potential mechanism which may predispose to frailty is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. This system plays a crucial role in the response to internal or external stressors such as diseases and activities of daily living. An impairment of the autonomic nervous system function may maintain or accelerate the frailty process. In this scientific project, a comprehensive echocardiography will investigate cardiac function with a particular attention to features which typically change with age, like flow parameters and chambers sizes. The activity of the autonomic nervous system will be explored with the analysis of heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory signals. The study participants will also undergo routine medical examination and a number of additional tests, including: assessment of cognitive function, psychological condition, nutrition status, activities of daily living, and risk of falls. The study group will comprise community dwelling elderly individuals over the age of 65 years who get around by themselves. After 2 years, the participants will be re-examined for their frailty and independence status, as well as their survival will be checked with the National Health Found electronic system. The aim of this project is to seek for factors determining frailty and to explore the frailty impact on the elderly people survival. Particular attention will be paid to the multidimensional frailty which is a new concept of the functional decline in the elderly. In addition, the prevalence of different modes of frailty in Polish community will be investigated. The results of this research should help to establish preventative and therapeutic strategies against frailty.

The Impact of Frailty on Thrombosis of Elderly Patients With NVAF (FTE-NVAF)

Non-valvular Atrial FibrillationElderly2 more

This study aims to investigate the use of anticoagulants in elderly patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) and the incidence of frailty in elderly patients with NVAF. After two years follow-up, we observe the incidence of thrombotic events and the influence of frailty on thrombotic events in elderly patients with NVAF.

Determinant of the Risk of the Becoming Frail in the Non-dependent Elederly

Risk of Frailty in Elderly

As an active and healthy ageing, "Successful Ageing" is a societal challenge for all countries members according to the European Commission. This study is intended to contribute to increase healthy, active and non-dependent lifetime. To this end the main goal is to highlight clinical and biological frailty determinants in elderly with potential weaknesses.

Implementation Study of the ICOPE Program for the Detection of Frailty in the Elderly Within the...

Frailty

Frailty is a geriatric syndrome resulting from a decrease in physiological reserve capacities altering the mechanisms of adaptation to stress with, in the absence of diagnosis and management, a short-term risk of falls, hospitalization, loss of autonomy and death. In 2019, the World Health Organization has taken up this subject with the objective of reducing the number of dependent people in the world by 15 million, i.e. 150,000 in France. For this purpose, recommendations for integrated care for seniors (Integrated Care for Older People = ICOPE) have been published. 6 functions are essential to maintain autonomy: mobility, memory, sight, hearing, mental health and nutrition. The first step of the ICOPE program consists of screening for a decline in one of these functions using a tool made up of questions or tests that can be carried out in 8 to 10 minutes in primary care by trained non-professionals. The second step is a thorough evaluation of the person screened, leading to the creation of a personalized care plan. In the current state of affairs, despite its recommendations, this identification is not carried out in Brittany. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of implementing the first stage of the ICOPE program by seizing the opportunity of the creation in the Brest region of two Territorial Health Professional Communities (CPTS) : Brest Santé Océane and Iroise santé.
