Investigation of Laterality and Sensory Acuity Abilities of Frozen Shoulder Patients

The brain contains the body representation necessary for normal functioning, including goal-directed movements and behaviors. Body representation involves integrated sensory input and ideas about one's body. Both executed and imagined movements depend on the representation of the body in the cortical area. Laterilization is one of the motor imagery methods that requires activation of proprioceptive, somatosensory and premotor regions and enables the determination of pain-induced cortical changes. Another method to determine pain-related somatosensory changes is the two-point discrimination test. It is suggested that laterization and sensory acuity responses may change due to long-term pain and stiffness experienced in people with frozen shoulders. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the laterization and sensory acuity abilities of patients with frozen shoulder.

Effects of Virtual Reality in Adhesive Capsulitis on Pain, Range of Motion and Function

Adhesive capsulitis (AC) also known as frozen shoulder typically manifests to decrease range of motion (ROM) and function and increase pain in shoulder. Objective of this study is to find the effects of virtual reality (VR) in adhesive capsulitis on pain, range of motion and function to decrease pain and improve range of motion and function. The study design will be a quasi-experimental study that will be used to compare the effects of virtual reality with conventional physical therapy. Subjects with adhesive capsulitis meeting the predetermined inclusion & exclusion criteria will be divided into two groups using lottery method. Pre assessment will be done using visual analogue scale (VAS), shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) tool and active shoulder flexion and abduction as subjective measurements. Subjects in group A will be treated with virtual reality stimulation given for 30 minutes per session through kinetic Xbox with sensory accelerator model no.1414. Two traditional training activities will be used to improve shoulder Range of motion i.e. shoulders finger ladder training activity and single curved shoulder training activity 12 times (3 rounds in each practice) of the training 1 . Patients will be required to complete standard training task by interacting with designed VR rehabilitative training games under the supervision of physical therapists and subjects in group B will be treated with conventional physical therapy i.e. grade 1 and 2 mobilization and stretching exercise. Baseline treatment protocol hot pack will be applied to both groups. Treatment duration for both groups will be 30 minutes. Each subject will receive a total 6 week protocol with 02 treatment sessions per week. Post treatment reading will be recorded after the end of 2 nd , 4th and 6th treatment weeks. Recorded values will be analyzed for any change using SPSS 21.

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS), is characterised by pain around the greater trochanter. Failure of first-line management for GTPS is followed by second-line treatments range from extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT), corticosteroid or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, and surgery. In a systematic reviews, PRP seems a viable effective and safe alternative option for GTPS after failed physical therapy. Also, positive results from previous systematic reviews involving radial ESWT (rESWT) as a treatment for GTPS. In the literature review, there is no comparison of the effectiveness of ESWT and PRP injection in patients with GTPS. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of rESWT and PRP injection on pain, hip disability, and quality of life in patients with GTPS

Those shoulder patients who fulfill inclusion criteria are divided into two groups. Supervised exercises will be performed by both groups. Kaltenborn mobilization will be applied to patient in experimental group only. Assessment will be done on baseline, 7th and post visit. A total 38 subjects were included in study who met inclusion criteria. Number of patients in both groups was 19.

A proof of concept randomized controlled trial (RCT) only evaluated the National University of Singapore's (NUS) T-Rehab tele-rehabilitation (TR) system at a home setting where rehabilitation was provided on an individual level. The previous RCT was also limited to stroke patients. In addition to stroke, there are many other conditions (such as fractures, lower limb joint replacement, musculoskeletal conditions) require and benefit from rehabilitation. The primary aims of the pilot evaluation study are: (i) To document patient adherence to TR, compared to usual care (ii) To estimate the extent to which TR improves functional status, compared to usual care and (iii) To estimate the cost effectiveness of TR, compared to usual care in eight different health conditions in Singapore.

Shoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints in orthopedic practice. Rotator cuff injuries account for up to 70% of pain in the shoulder girdle. There is no clinical study carried out in Brazil comparing cost effectiveness between the open and arthroscopic methods of rotator cuff repair surgery. The present study aims to determine which method of repair of the rotator cuff, open or arthroscopic, has the best cost effectiveness ratio. A randomized clinical trial will be carried out in which patients with symptomatic rotator cuff lesion will be submitted to repair surgery by either open or arthroscopic technique and will be subsequently evaluated.
