Quality Of Life in Patients With Malignant Biliary Obstruction

Gallbladder CancerLiver Cancer1 more

You may have symptoms like itching, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, fevers and chills. The treatment you will receive to relieve the blockage is also intended to relieve symptoms and improve your quality of life. The purpose of this study is to find out if relieving the blockage in your bile duct improves your quality of life.

AppendixAppendectomy4 more

The FANCY study will investigate whether a selective policy of histopathological examination of appendices and gallbladders based on the intraoperative findings of the surgeon is safe and cost-effective.

Peritoneum CancerPeritoneum Neoplasm13 more

Multicentric, international, web-based prospective documentation of the indications and results of Pressurized Aerosol Chemotherapy (so-called PIPAC or PITAC) for treating malignant pleural and peritoneal diseases. Indication is decided by the treating physician. There are no predefined inclusion or exclusion criteria.

Xenotransplantation of Primary Cancer Samples in Zebrafish Embryos

Liver CancerPancreatic Cancer5 more

The study consists in a co-clinical trial by using zebrafish embryos. Specifically, an observational prospective clinical trial on patients operated of epato-biliar-pancreatic cancers and gastro-intestinal cancers undergoing a chemotherapy treatment will be run concurrently to an animal trial on zebrafish embryos xenotransplanted with patient cancer cells in order to demonstrate that zebrafish model is able to predict the therapeutic regimen with the best efficacy for each patient.

Validation of a Score That Predicts Residual Disease in Incidental Gallbladder Cancer

Gallbladder Neoplasm Malignant Primary

An incidental gallbladder carcinoma is detected in approximately 0.2% of the cholecystectomy specimens removed for presumed benign disease. In patients that meet specific criteria, a surgical re-operation is recommended to treat possible residual tumor disease not treated with the initial cholecystectomy. The presence of residual disease in the re-intervention specimen worsens the prognosis of patient survival, according to several published series. Patients with known or high-risk of residual disease may benefit from a specific strategy that would improve patient selection before attempting re-resection. A pathology-based score has been developed but has not been yet validated in an external series of patients. The use of pathological data from the initial cholecystectomy specimen could identify patients at risk of residual disease and aid in selecting a specific therapeutic strategy prior to attempting surgical re-exploration.

Anonymous Testing of Pathology Specimens for BRCA Mutations in Ashkenazi Jewish Individuals Who...

Extrahepatic Bile Duct CancerGallbladder Cancer8 more

The intent of the proposed study is to describe the prevalence of the most common recurring mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2, blmAsh , and the A636P MSH2 mutation among Ashkenazi Jewish individuals with a variety of cancer diagnoses. If a substantial proportion of these samples contain such mutations, future patients presenting with these diseases may wish to undergo genetic counseling and, if appropriate, formal genetic testing. The benefit from such a process would pertain mainly to the families of these individuals.

A Study of Circulating Exosome Proteomics In Gallbladder Carcinoma Patients

ProteinosisGallbladder Carcinoma

This research will be the first study for exosome purified from blood in gallbladder carcinoma patients. Proteomics studies will be done in both tumor tissue and the circulating exosome from blood specimens. Then, the potential prognostic and predictive biomarkers will be searched by bioinformatics to find the correlations between exosome biomarkers and gallbladder carcinoma.
