5-FU, Leucovorin, Oxaliplatin and Docetaxel (FLOT) Versus Epirubicin, Cisplatin and 5-FU (ECF) in...

Gastric Cancer

Patients with locally advanced resectable adenocarcinoma of the stomach or the esophagogastreal junction without previous therapy will be treated with one of two chemotherapy combinations before and after surgery. One half of the patients gets 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU), Leucovorin, Oxaliplatin and Docetaxel (FLOT), the others Epirubicin, Cisplatin and 5-FU (ECF). Main objective of the study is median overall survival.

Early Onset and Familial Gastric Cancer Registry

Gastric Cancer

The purpose of this study is to establish a gastric cancer registry. A registry is a database of information. With the registry, we can learn more about the genetic causes of gastric cancer in order to develop better methods of early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of gastric cancers. As part of this study, you will be asked to join a registry of families who are affected with various forms of gastric cancer. These registries are important because they may help physicians better manage gastric cancer now and in the future. Participating in the Early Onset and Familial Gastric Cancer Registry can also be educational for families, since it will provide important information to patients, families, and physicians. All of this will help to further our understanding of genetic causes of gastric cancer and eventually, help determine better ways to diagnose, treat, and survey patients with gastric cancer and people who may have a higher risk for gastric cancer.

Early Recovery After Surgery Protocol in Improving Quality of Life in Participants With Stage 0-IIIC...

Clinical Stage 0 Gastric Cancer AJCC v8Clinical Stage I Gastric Cancer AJCC v816 more

This phase II trial studies how well an early recovery after surgery protocol works in enhancing quality of life in participants with stage 0-IIIC gastric cancer undergoing surgery. The early recovery after surgery protocol may decrease pain and nausea, promote bowl function, decrease the number of days hospitalized, and improve a participant's ability to function normally after surgery.

Quality Control Study of Laparoscopic Sentinel Node Biopsy in Early Gastric Cancer

Early Gastric Cancer

Laparoscopic sentinel lymph node biopsy and stomach preserving surgery in ealry gastric cancer is less invasive method which can increase quality of life. Multicenter phase III trial is requred to validate this method. In this study all items which are necessary for laparoscopic sentinel lymph node biopsy are identified according to checklist and evaluated the performance completement.

A Study Comparing Billroth II With Roux-en-Y Reconstruction for Gastric Cancer

Gastric CancerStomach Cancer1 more

Both Billroth II and Roux en Y are acceptable techniques of reconstruction after subtotal gastrectomy, however the debate one which is better remains unanswered. The aim of this study is to compare Billroth II and Roux en Y reconstruction techniques after radical distal subtotal gastrectomy for gastric cancer in terms of postoperative outcomes and quality of life. The investigators hypothesize that Roux en Y will have lesser gastrointestinal symptoms and reflux problems when compared to Billroth II reconstruction. Patients with resectable gastric cancer meeting the inclusion criteria will be consented and enrolled. Data on demographics, nutrition, gastrointestinal symptoms, and quality of life will be collected. They will be randomized after completion of distal subtotal gastrectomy to under go either Roux en Y or Billroth II reconstruction. Surgery data will be collected post-operatively. At 6 months follow up a repeat nutritional assessment using clinical and biochemical parameters will be carried out. The biochemical markers are part of routine follow up. The final assessment will be at the one year post surgery visit when by interview using EORTC 30 questionnaire quality of life data, gastrointestinal symptoms and nutritional assessment and surgery data for recurrence will be repeated. At one year patients will also have upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, which is part of routine follow up. At endoscopy stump gastritis will be graded and esophageal reflux assessed as per Los Angeles classification. It is postulated that 5% of the patients on Roux en Y reconstruction will experience poor clinical symptoms compared to 25% of those on Billroth II based on reflux symptoms. To achieve a statistical significance with 95% power and a 2-sided test of 5% for this 20% clinical difference, 80 subjects for each arm will be required. Factoring a 10% attrition rate for mortality and lost to follow up, a total of 160 subjects to be randomized equally will be recruited.

Efficacy Study of Helicobacter Pylori Eradication in Patients Undergoing Subtotal Gastrectomy for...

Gastric Cancer

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is associated with gastric cancer in epidemiological studies.Gastric atrophy and intestinal metaplasia caused by H. pylori are considered as precancerous lesions, but whether H. pylori eradication improves these lesions is controversial. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate whether Helicobacter pylori eradication improves glandular atrophy and intestinal metaplasia which are known to be precancerous condition in patients undergoing subtotal gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
