A Study to Evaluate the Safety and Tolerability of Virtual Reality to Treat Gastroparesis
GastroparesisThe purpose of this study is to determine if virtual reality therapy is safe and tolerable in treating gastroparesis.
Vagus Nerve Response in Gastroparesis Patients
GastroparesisThis study aims to characterize how vagus nerve compound action potentials (CNAPs) conduct along the vagus nerve in gastroparetic patients receiving GES therapy using a flexible, non-invasive multielectrode array (MEA).
Gastric Assessment of Pediatric Patients Undergoing Surgery
FastingDelayed Gastric Emptying2 moreThe goal of this pilot prospective cohort study is to examine the reproducibility of gastric volume and emptying as measured by gastric ultrasound and its correlation to a gold-standard test for gastric emptying in the perioperative period in pediatric patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: What is the reliability (inter-rater variability between expert and novice assessors, and intra-rater variability) of a) the gastric antral cross-sectional area (CSA) and b) gastric volume using the Perlas US qualitative grading assessment, measured by using an ultrasound device in pediatric patients undergoing general anesthesia for elective surgery? What is the correlation between ultrasound assessment of gastric emptying by the antral-CSA and gastric emptying determined by the acetaminophen absorption test (AAT), the gold standard? The study will include two cohorts. Cohort assignment will be based on age and anesthesia induction plan. Subjects >7yrs of age and expected to get an IV induction will be assigned to Cohort #1. Subjects <7yrs of age and not expected to get an IV induction will be assigned to Cohort #2. Cohort 1 will include abdominal ultrasound for gastric assessment AND the acetaminophen absorption test which includes administering enteral acetaminophen (tylenol) with 6 oz of water and drawing of blood samples through a peripheral intravenous line. Cohort 2 will include subjects for whom a peripheral intravenous line placement is not part of routine pre-operative care. Procedures for Cohort 2 will include abdominal ultrasound only in the pre-op area (no tylenol). This cohort is included to examine the reliability of measurements across age groups.
GI-Challenge Study for Gastroparesis Patients and Healthy Controls
GastroparesisGastroparesis Patients and Healthy Controls ages 20-49 will be asked to participate in an observational study measuring vagal activity following food ingestion in order to establish parameters of autonomic nerve/vagal function in healthy human subjects compared to those with gastroparesis. Information generated from this study may be used in the future to establish what is normal and abnormal enteric vagal tone and how much vagal nerve stimulation treatment may be required to help patients with gastroparesis.
BSGM to Evaluate Patients With GI Symptoms
Gastrointestinal Motility Disorders in ChildrenFunctional Gastrointestinal Disorders2 moreThe goal of this observational study is to learn about gastric myoelectric activity in children with GI symptoms. The main question it aims to answer is which patterns or signals are associated with GI symptoms as measured by a body surface gastric mapping (BSGM) device. Participants will have their stomach activity recorded for up to 4 hours using the BSGM device and log real-time symptoms. Researchers will compare the recordings of healthy children and children with GI symptoms to define abnormal GI patterns.
Study of Gastric Motility in Eosinophilic Gastritis
Eosinophilic GastritisGastroparesis1 morePurpose: The study is a cross-sectional observational study designed to determine if eosinophilic gastritis (EG) results in gastric motility impairment. Hypothesis: Gastric dysfunction occurs in the natural history of EG but is underdiagnosed due, in part, to contraindications to the use of the standard meals used in gastric emptying studies.
Rare Disease Patient Registry & Natural History Study - Coordination of Rare Diseases at Sanford...
Rare DisordersUndiagnosed Disorders316 moreCoRDS, or the Coordination of Rare Diseases at Sanford, is based at Sanford Research in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It provides researchers with a centralized, international patient registry for all rare diseases. This program allows patients and researchers to connect as easily as possible to help advance treatments and cures for rare diseases. The CoRDS team works with patient advocacy groups, individuals and researchers to help in the advancement of research in over 7,000 rare diseases. The registry is free for patients to enroll and researchers to access. Visit sanfordresearch.org/CoRDS to enroll.
Gastric Pathophysiology in Diabetes
Diabetes MellitusType 15 moreThis is a comprehensive pathophysiological study assessing various gastric functions in patients with diabetes mellitus. The investigators aim to examine the stomach with various measurement devices to gain information about its different functions and malfunctions. After the initial measurements, the examinations will be repeated after a year in each patient. Changes in the measurement values will be examined and their relations to each other and to the overall health of the patients will be investigated. For example it is hypothesised that diabetic patients also suffering from functional dyspepsia or gastroparesis will also show some changes in the function of the pyloric muscle.
Gastroparesis Outcome Longitudinal Database Enrolled Numerically
GastroparesisGOLDEN is a longitudinal database of patients with the symptoms (Sx) of gastroparesis (Gp) who were seen and recorded at the University of Louisville from 2012 and is ongoing. Patients are enrolled and followed by sequential numbers and may include legacy patients seen at other centers by some of the same team and who are reported as part of the series. Outcome relate to patients Sx, survival, quality of life and other measures as detailed below, over time, regardless of whether any treatment was given or not. If treatments were administered GOLDEN allows for examination and stratification of outcome by groups both at baseline and at follow up.
Pediatric Gastroparesis Registry
GastroparesisGastroparesis-like SyndromeThe objective of the Pediatric Gastroparesis Registry is to create a national prospective registry of children and adolescents with gastroparesis and gastroparesis-like syndrome (symptoms of gastroparesis but normal gastric emptying).
