The Prospective Collection, Storage and Reporting of Data on Patients Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem...
Acute Myelogenous LeukemiaAcute Lymphocytic Leukemia8 moreTo provide the IRB approved mechanism for the prospective collection, analysis and reporting of data on patients who are undergoing either an autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant for a disease in which a research question is not being addressed and for which peer reviewed, published data have demonstrated efficacy for this treatment approach.
Symptom Management for YA Cancer Survivors
CancerYoung Adult8 moreSymptom interference is common for survivors of young adult cancer (aged 18-39 at diagnosis) and impacts their abilities to achieve normative life goals (e.g., education, careers, independence, romantic/social relationships) as well as adhere to recommended follow-up care. Assistance with symptom management has been rated by young adult survivors as an important and unmet healthcare need; however, skill-based symptom management interventions have typically been tested among older cancer survivors and have not targeted the unique developmental needs of those diagnosed as young adults. The proposed research advances the health and wellbeing of young adult cancer survivors by creating a developmentally appropriate hybrid in-person/mHealth behavioral symptom management intervention which addresses variables (i.e., symptoms and symptom interference) consistently linked to significant social, economic, and health burden.
Exercise in Testicular Germ Cell Cancer Survivors
Testicular Germ Cell TumorRegular exercise is effective in prevention & treatment of chronic diseases. Exercise can reduce late toxicity of chemotherapy, commonly found in cancer survivors, which is yet to be translated into clinical practice. Mechanisms of exercise benefits in oncologic patients are far from being elucidated, and include increase in muscle mass, reduction of fat mass, systemic inflammation and cardiometabolic risk. Synchronization of exercise adaptive response is, to an extent, mediated by bioactive molecules released from muscle, with anti-inflammatory & tumor-suppressing properties. Muscle satellite cells are a source of regeneration, muscle structural integrity & functional capacity. Phenotypes of muscle cells, such as secretory profile, lipid & glucose metabolism, mirror clinical phenotypes of the donor. Importantly, muscle cells' metabolism in vitro can be modulated by 8-12 week training in vivo. Epigenetic mechanisms regulating muscle & systemic metabolism in cancer survivors are not yet understood.
Metformin and Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Stage III-IV Ovarian, Fallopian Tube, or Primary...
Brenner TumorMalignant Ascites26 moreThis randomized phase II trial studies how well metformin hydrochloride and combination chemotherapy works in treating patients with stage III-IV ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin, paclitaxel and docetaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Metformin hydrochloride may help carboplatin, paclitaxel and docetaxel work better by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drugs. Studying samples of blood and tissue in the laboratory from patients receiving metformin hydrochloride may help doctors learn more about the effects of metformin hydrochloride on cells. It may also help doctors understand how well patients respond to treatment. Giving metformin hydrochloride together with combination chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells.
Effectiveness of an Individualized Program of Muscular Strength and Endurance Program for Improving...
Testicular Germ Cell CancerBackground: Patients with testicular germ cell cancer (GCC) have a high cure rate, however impaired muscle function and fatigue are the most common complications among patients with GCC undergoing treatment with chemotherapy. Although exercise is widely recommended, information about physiopathological effects of cancer therapy in skeletal muscle is very limited. Methods/Design: The present study is a randomized controlled trial comparing an individualized program of muscular strength and endurance with aerobic training compared to a control group. All variables will be measured at the beginning and at the end of a 8-week intervention by the same evaluator, who will hide the disposition of participants to each group. Besides, it will be monitoring during de following 6 months (24 weeks) after training for all outcome variables.
Germ Cell Tumor and Testicular Tumor DNA Registry
Germ Cell TumorTesticular TumorThis study is being done to create a registry to help us learn more about germ cell tumors (GCT) and other testicular tumors. The registry will include people with these tumors and also relatives and unrelated people without these tumors. This study will help us learn more about the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and outcome of these tumors. Studying relatives of patients and people unrelated to patients with GCT and other testicular tumors will help us understand why some people get these tumors and why some people don't.

Retrospective Study of Germ Cell Tumors of the Central Nervous System
Germ Cell Tumor of CNSRetrospectively analyzing the epidemiological and clinical characteristics, treatment, recurrence, prognosis and prognostic factors of the germ-cell tumors of central nervous system in a single center.
Surveillance of Association of Immune Status and Prognosis of CNS Germ Cell Tumor Survivors
Intracranial Germ Cell TumorIntracranial Germ Cell CNS Tumor2 morePlatinum-based chemotherapy, alternating at 21-days intervals with cycles of ifosfamide, cisplatin, and etoposide (ICE) and subsequently received radiotherapy were considered as standard treatment for intracranial germ cell tumors. However, whether reliable clinical data can quantify the damage degree of immunologic function caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy is still unknown. This project regards the level of lymphocyte and immunocyte in peripheral blood as a quantitative index to reflect the dynamic change of the immunologic function of patients with CNS germ cell tumors before and after chemoradiotherapy treatment. Meanwhile, the investigators will also investigate the relationship between the level of lymphocyte and immunocyte in peripheral blood and the response rate of therapy. This study is designed to prospectively analyze the dynamic changes of immune status, prognosis and society function after standard treatment in patients with intracranial germ cell tumor.
