Subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) is considered the gold standard for root coverage treatment. However, it is associated with postoperative morbidity, limited amount of donor tissue, and longer surgical time. Thus, the search for a tissue substitute for SCTG is increasing. Currently, one of the possible autogenous soft tissue substitutes found in the market is the Mucograft® xenogeneic matrix (CM). The results with the use of MC are very promising, both for root coverage as well as for the gain of keratinized tissue. The present study consists of a parallel randomized clinical trial to compare SCTG (control group) and CM (test group) in the treatment of Miller's class I and II gingival recessions, multiple in aesthetic areas (upper central incisors, Lateral and canine).

Non-carious cervical lesion is frequently associated with gingival recession, resulting in a combined lesion that has a different treatment prognosis when the two lesions appear alone. The literature presents few studies that propose a multidisciplinary approach (restorative and root coverage surgery procedures) to optimize the treatment of this combined lesion. The previously proposed approaches and materials have limitations and an optimal clinical protocol has not been established yet. Thus the aim of this study is to evaluate a novel multidisciplinary protocol with two resin composites and two different adhesive systems through a randomized clinical trial and laboratory studies. 120 combined lesions will be randomly assigned to one of the following groups: NP + TE (n = 30) - Partial restoration of cervical lesions with nanofilled composite and total-etch adhesive system and periodontal surgery for root coverage, NP + UA (n = 30) - partial restoration of cervical lesions with nanofilled composite and self-etching adhesive system and periodontal surgery for root coverage, MH + TE (n = 30) - partial restoration of cervical lesions with microhybrid composite and total-etch adhesive system and periodontal surgery for root coverage, MH + UA (n = 30) - partial restoration of cervical lesions with microhybrid composite and self-etching adhesive system and periodontal surgery for root coverage. Restorations will be assessed using the USPHS criteria after one week, six months and twelve months.

The aim of this study is to compare a SCTG operation group and EMD applied group in addition to SCTG using complete root coverage rate and a newer method root coverage esthetic scoring system (RES).

Microsurgical Versus Conventional Semilunar Coronally Advanced Flap

BACKGROUND: The semilunar coronally repositioned flap (SLCRF) has been used for the treatment of recession defects (GR). Recently a microsusgical (MICRO) has been successfully employed with the procedure apparently resulting in improved results, however, no previous controlled clinical study has evaluated the MICRO SLCRF in comparison with SLCRF performed as originally described (MACRO). The objective of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes of the MICRO and MACRO SLCRF in the treatment of human GR. METHODS: Fourteen patients, with bilateral Miller class I GR defects were randomly assigned to MICRO or MACRO SLCRF. Clinical parameters, assessed at baseline and 6 months later, included recession height (RECH), recession width (RECW), width of keratinized tissue (WKT), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), pain measurements and esthetic evaluation with the Root Coverage Score (RCS). Inter-measurements differences were analyzed with a Chi-square or a paired t-test, with significance set at α<0.05.

Coronally Advanced Flap With or Without Porcine Collagen Matrix for Root Coverage

The purpose of this study is to compare the clinical outcomes after coronally advanced flap technique (CAF) associated or not to a porcine collagen matrix graft (CM) in the treatment of single gingival recessions. For this blinded randomized controlled clinical trial, 40 patients with Miller Class I or II gingival recession ≥ 2 mm in canines or premolars will selected and randomly assigned to receive either CAF or CAF+CM. The clinical parameters evaluated will be probing depth, clinical attachment level, gingival recession height, height and thickness of keratinized tissue. Clinical measurements will be taken at baseline and 45 days, 2, 3 and 6 months after surgery.

Effect of a Multi-directional Power Toothbrush on Recession

Background: Clinical studies have explored the relationship between toothbrushing and the development of recession, but relevant recession data for the multi-directional power toothbrush (PT) are lacking. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of brushing with either a multi-directional power toothbrush (PT) or an ADA (American Dental Association) reference manual toothbrush (MT) on pre-existing mid-buccal gingival recession (Pre-GR) over 12 months Methods: This was a 12-month, prospective, single-blind, parallel-group, randomized controlled clinical study. Healthy participants without periodontitis but with at least 2 teeth showing Pre-GR ≥2mm were randomized to a group either brushing with a MT or a PT. The primary outcome parameter was the change at sites with Pre-GR ≥2mm. All recession measurements were performed by one calibrated examiner at baseline, 6 and 12 months. Secondary outcomes were changes of recession at all buccal sites (with or without pre-GR), changes in the percentage of recession sites demonstrating a change of ≥1mm as well as changes in pocket probing depths.
