Clinical and Microbiological Effects of a Mouthwash Containing Chlorine Dioxide

Halitosis

Previous research has shown the oxidizing properties and microbiological efficacies of chlorine dioxide (ClO2). However, no clinical studies have investigated its microbiological efficacies on periodontal and malodorous bacteria. The aim of this study was to assess the inhibitory effects of a mouthwash containing ClO2 on morning oral malodor and on salivary periodontal and malodorous bacteria using for 7 days.

Effect of Wearing Face Masks on Salivary Parameters and Halitosis

Dry MouthHalitosis

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the use of face masks is recommended / mandatory to prevent infection. Patients and students have reported to experience limitations in their oral health-related quality of life, especially with regard to the occurrence of dry mouth and halitosis, while wearing face masks. Scientific studies regarding the effects of face masks have so far focused exclusively on medical staff. Studies among the general population are not yet available, but are of interest as dry mouth is a risk factor for dental diseases (e.g., caries, erosion). Therefore, the present study aims at measuring the effect of wearing different face masks on salivary parameters (unstimulated and stimulated saliva flow rate, pH, buffer capacity) and halitosis (volatile sulphur compounds).

Effect of a Probiotic Water on Oral Health in Adults

Oral BacteriaHalitosis

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of consuming a probiotic on salivary, plaque, and tongue bacteria, as well as oral malodor (bad breath). Healthy volunteers will consume a probiotic powder, or a placebo powder, that is dissolved in water for 4 weeks.

Clinical Evaluation of Some Local Antimicrobial Agents' Adjunctive Effects On Periodontal Parameters...

Halitosis

The aim of this trial was to establish the clinical efficacy of Listerine and chlorhexidine (CHX) when used as a cooling agent with ultrasonic instrumentation, on periodontal parameters and halitosis. Ninety patients with periodontal disease participated for the study. Individuals were randomly selected to a control and test groups. At baseline, all subjects completed a questionnaire and carried out an examination. Standard periodontal outcome variables were assessed. For both groups, the plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), pocket depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP) and clinical attachment level (CAL) scores were enrolled at baseline and after 30 days. Volatile sulphur compound (VSC) levels were evaluated by a Halimeter (Interscan Corp., Chatsworth, CA, USA) at baseline (T0), immediately after treatment (T1), and at 7 (T2), 14 (T3) and 30 days (T4).

Halitosis

This study is designed to evaluate the effect of an investigational lozenge with the enzyme polyphenol oxidase and green coffee extract in reducing and controlling intra-oral halitosis following immediate use and daily use of the lozenge over a one-week period.

Comparing Site Specific Mouth Disinfection With Commercial Oral Mouth Rinse With Traditional Oral...

Oral Odor (Halitosis)The Study Want to Know if Site Specific Mouth Rinsing With Oral Mouth Disinfectants Can be Better Than Paonoral Mouth Rinsing

Objectives: To determine whether site-specific mouth rinsing with oral disinfectants can improve oral odor beyond the traditional panoral mouth disinfection with mouth rinses by targeting specifically oral malodor implicate anaerobic bacteria. Methods: Twenty healthy fasting subjects volunteered for a blinded prospective, descriptive correlational crossover cross-section clinical trial conduct during the month of Ramadan in the lunar Hajri year 1434 AH (10 July 2013-8 August 2013) in Albaha province in Saudi Arabia involving the application of Listerine® Cool Mint® mouth rinse by either the traditional panoral rinsing method or a site-specific disinfection method targeting the subgingival and supragingival plaque and the posterior third of the tongue dorsum while avoiding the remaining locations within the oral cavity. The viable anaerobic and aerobic bacterial counts, volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) levels, organoleptic assessment of oral odor and the tongue-coating index were compared at baseline, 1, 5 and 9 hours after the treatment.

Efficacy of Glycine Powder Air-Polishing Combined With Scaling and Root Planing in the Treatment...

Halitosis

The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of using perio flow adjunctively with mechanical instrumentation on periodontal parameters and halitosis. Sixty patients who presented with 4-6-mm probing pocket depth (PPD) were recruited for the study. Patients were randomly assigned to glycine powder air-polishing (GPAP) or control groups. For both groups PPDscores were recorded at the baseline and 1 month. Volatile sulphur compound (VSC) values were measured by a halimeter at the baseline, immediately after treatment, and at 7 days, 14 days and 1 month.
