Hypnosis for Treating Xerostomia Following Radiotherapy in Head & Neck Cancer Patients

Xerostomia

xerostomia develops in all patients with head and neck cancer following radiotherapy. it consists one of the main side effects which affects quality of life. currently, there is no standard of care for treating this condition. parasympathomimetic drugs may help but carry significant side effects. hypnosis may affect autonomic function such as salivation, in healthy people.in this study we will explore the efficacy of hypnosis in improving salivation, in the patient population.

Combination Chemotherapy Plus Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Advanced and/or Recurrent...

Head and Neck Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Combining chemotherapy with radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy plus radiation therapy in treating patients who have advanced and/or recurrent head and neck cancer.

De-Intensification Radiotherapy Postoperative Head Neck

Cancer of Head and Neck

In patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity, the oropharynx and larynx with >= pT3 and or pN+ postoperative radio - or radiochemotherapy is the standard of care. Postoperative radiochemotherapy is indicated in patients with multiple lymph node metastasis, lymph node metastasis with extracapsular spread and or R1/2 resection. Locoregional control rates are over 80% after surgery and radio(chemo)therapy. But many patients suffer from therapy-related long-term side-effects, like xerostomia, dysphagia, fibrosis, trismus etc. The aim of this study is to investigate if depending on primary tumor stage, quality of resection ( resection margin) and number of lymph node metastasis and performed neck dissection an adapted de-intensified dose- and target volume concept may be performed without reducing locoregional-control but with reducing radiotherapy-related side-effects.

NewBreez for Airway Protection in Head and Neck Cancer Patients With Chronic Aspiration

AspirationLaryngeal Cancer

Laryngeal dysfunction is a problem that affects many patients after laryngeal cancer therapy (surgery or radio/chemotherapy). Laryngeal dysfunction is associated with higher incidences of aspiration and respiratory tract complications such as aspiration pneumonia. Current standard of care treatment to reduce the consequences of aspiration is often a tracheostomy which has its own risks and complications. The proposed study aims to describe the performance of a new CE marked medical implant, the NewBreez, in protecting the patient's airways from aspiration.

An Imaging Study in Patients With Thyroid Cancer or Head and Neck Cancer With Pertechnetate Made...

Thyroid NeoplasmsHead and Neck Neoplasms

Doctors at the Cross Cancer Institute have developed a new method of producing 99mTc Pertechnetate in a cyclotron unit. A study done at the Cross Cancer Institute in 2011 with ten patients using this imaging agent showed that it was safe and produced images with the same pattern as generator produced Pertechnetate. This study is now being done in larger numbers of patients to again show that the imaging pattern of both agents is the same, and to again demonstrate its safety.
