Parenteral Nutrition for Patients Treated for Locally Advanced Inoperable Tumors of the Head and...
Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Hypopharynx Stage IIISquamous Cell Carcinoma of the Hypopharynx Stage IV7 morePrevention of critical weight loss. In patients with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck (SCCHN) weight loss is a relevant clinical problem during radiotherapy and might result in higher treatment related toxicity and discontinuation of a potential curative treatment. Thus the investigators want to evaluate the efficacy of overnight parenteral nutritional (PN) support in patients with SCCHN treated with curative radiotherapy (RTX) in combination with Cetuximab (E) or Cisplatin (P).
LUX-Head & Neck 4: Afatinib (BIBW 2992) Versus Placebo for the Treatment of Head and Neck Squamous...
Head and Neck NeoplasmsThis randomised, double-blind phase III trial will be performed in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The objectives of the trial are to compare the efficacy and safety of afatinib (BIBW 2992) with placebo as adjuvant therapy to patients who have received definitive chemo-radiotherapy.
Study of MK-1697 in Participants With Advanced Solid Tumors (MK-1697-001)
NeoplasmsColorectal Neoplasms1 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of MK-1697. There are 2 parts in this study: dose escalation to determine the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) and confirm the RP2D (Part A) and cohort expansion to determine preliminary efficacy in participants with colorectal cancer (CRC) or head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) (Part B). No formal hypothesis testing will be done in this study.
Effects of Aqualief® in Patients With Xerostomia as Consequence of Radiotherapy for Head and Neck...
XerostomiaAsialia2 moreThe treatment of xerostomia is aimed to increase existing saliva flow or replace lost secretions, the control of the state of oral health, the control of dental caries, and the treatment of possible infections. Therapy options in xerostomia depend on the presence of residual secretion or the absence of it. When residual secretory capacity is present, it is advisable to regularly stimulate the salivary glands by mechanical or gustatory stimuli as supportive oral care. Aqualief® is a food supplement based on carnosine and hibiscus. These two ingredients are mixed in specific proportions to form a pH buffering system which maintains the pH of the oral cavity at the proper value which is required for the regular secretion of saliva.
Transdisciplinary Oral/Oropharyngeal Cancer Research & Care in Head and Neck Cancer (TORCH)
Head and Neck CancerThe purpose of this research study is to see if it is possible to collect tissue, saliva and blood samples from patients who are having surgery and send those samples to different labs across MUSC. The researchers in these labs will collect tissue, blood and saliva samples before surgery and during surgery to see if there are any changes in the samples. They will compare the changes in the samples to the clinical outcomes. Patients will also be given surveys to evaluate patient preferences, anxiety/distress, symptom severity, support by HPV status.
Abemaciclib and Pembrolizumab in Metastatic or Recurrent Head and Neck Cancer
Head and Neck CancerTo assess the objective response rate of tumor lesions to abemaciclib in combination with pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic or recurrent squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck.
Effects of Human Papillomavirus Diagnosis on Relationships of Patients With Head and Neck Cancer...
Head and Neck CarcinomaThis trial studies the effects of human papillomavirus diagnosis on the relationships of patients with head and neck cancer. Determining the effects of human papillomavirus diagnosis on relationships may determine whether human papillomavirus-positive patients and their partners are more likely to experience decline in relationship intimacy after diagnosis than human papillomavirus-negative patients and their partners. This may help researchers provide valuable insight into the degree to which a diagnosis of human papillomavirus affects patient relationships over and above the effects of a cancer diagnosis and address the need for additional patient counseling or education following diagnosis.
A Rehabilitation Education Care Program on Return to Work Among Head and Neck Cancer Survivors
Head and Neck CancerThe purpose of this study will to identify factors (performance ability, physical function, psychosocial function, fear of cancer progression, social support, demographic characteristics, and disease-related characteristics) that impact the Return to work and work status in survivors of HNC within one year after completion treatment. Head and neck cancer survivors who have attended a rehabilitation education care program (RECP) intervention will have better performance ability, physical function, psychosocial function, fear of cancer progress, social support, and lower return to work to patients who not attended with the intervention.
A Comprehensive Approach to Head and Neck Cancer Prehabilitation
Cancer of Head and NeckHead and neck cancer accounts for 3% of malignancies in the United States. However, the diagnosis and treatment for head and neck cancer is considered to be debilitating. Not because of its morbidity, but due to the extremely rigorous treatment course which has a profound impact on patients physical, social, and emotional functioning. Disfigurement and sensorimotor deficits further compound this impact. Head and neck cancer patients contend with treatments that can significantly affect their quality of life. Treatment regularly results in decreased functional capacity and decreased quality of life. Physical impairments are manifested through, but not limited to, disfigurement, deconditioning, communication issues, "swallowing, speech, breathing, and cancer-related fatigue". Premorbid factors such as preexisting anxiety and depression, chemical dependency, financial barriers, and lack of social support system are unique obstacles to the head and neck cancer population impacting treatment and outcomes. Due to these factors, patients experience higher rates of anxiety and depression, psychological distress, and fear of cancer recurrence. In fact, "compared with other survivors of cancer, head and neck cancer survivors are almost 2 times more likely to die from suicide". In view of the aforementioned research, Roger Maris Cancer Center's head and neck cancer will implement a prehabilitation program that evaluates each patient using standardized screening tools and provide personalized education and interventions. This project evaluates a more comprehensive and proactive multidisciplinary approach to improve treatment and outcomes in head and neck cancer patients.
