MED-EL HEARING SOLUTIONS (MEHS): AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY
Hearing LossThis Registry represents a non-interventional systematic collection of clinical data in which prospective data from children and adults are collected as fully anonymized data sets, derived from original clinical records on appropriately informed subjects. This is a patient-outcomes Registry for subjects of any age who are provided in routine clinical practice with one or more MED-EL hearing devices. The Registry aims to collect data for hypothesis generation on subject device use, auditory performance, quality of life and health-related utilities, across different types of implantable and non-implantable hearing devices from MED-EL company. Subjects will be evaluated with a set of standardized tests and questionnaires prior to implantation or prior to initial device activation (baseline) and at follow-up intervals according to the clinical practice.

When the patient visited the Department of otolaryngology clinic for hearing loss, we can diagnose the SSNHL following the result of pure tone audiometry and the history of the patient. The cohort is a system that tracks the hearing recovery status, timing, and degree of recovery of patients who received cocktail therapy with or without high-dose steroids, vasodilators, antiviral agents, and intratympanic steroid injections, satellite ganglion block, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
Three-dimensional Perception of Sounds in Military With Acoustic Trauma
Hearing LossSpatial hearing capacities of soldiers with acoustic trauma are evaluated in ENT consultations with routine tests (i.e. tonal audiometry, voice audiometry). While the results conclude that soldiers with acoustic trauma have sufficient abilities to carry out professional missions, soldiers report recurring complaints of sound localization (spatial hearing), i.e. difficulties in identifying the position of sound sources in their environment. However, there is currently no objective test to identify and objectify these complaints of spatial hearing. The investigators have developed a new approach (SPHERE) based on virtual reality and 3D motion tracking, allowing us to evaluate and record the spatial hearing performance of subject with hearing deficit. This system allowed us to highlight localization deficits in three-dimensional space. This project explores and quantifies the spatial hearing impairments of soldiers with acoustic trauma. The quantification of the spatial hearing capacities will allow to define a specific rehabilitation strategy of spatial hearing deficits.

Hearing ImpairmentHearing LossThe primary purpose of this study is to investigate how personality, motivation & auditory lifestyle relate to hearing aid satisfaction & acceptance for first-time hearing aid users. As such, first-time hearing aid users will be followed via an app for a period of six months. They will answer baseline questionnaires about personality, lifestyle and hearing aid expectations before the first fit. After the hearing aid fitting, they will be prompted by the app to answer questionnaires about their hearing aid experience at weeks 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 and 24.

Language Proficiency and Quality of Life After Receiving Cochlear Implantation as a Child
Hearing LossTreatment with cochlear implantation is now offered to proximately 95 % of children with deafness in Norway. More than 500 children have been operated at Oslo University Hospital. The study is a cross-sectional study aimed to investigate speech perception, language skills, quality of life in all childhood cochlear implant (CI) recipients in Norway from 1988-2012. Factors such as child characteristics, characteristics with the family, the cochlear implant, the rehabilitation situation, choice of communication mode, school and work situation are surveyed to see if these factors can be associated with variations in outcome. The study will include pre and post lingual deaf children and children with multiple disabilities. Participants are recruited and examined in conjunction with their annual CI control at the hospital. It will be conducted a series of tests determining listening, speech and language development, non-verbal intelligence. Questionnaires are used to collect background information and quality of life experience. The questionnaires include self-report forms for different age groups, and a parent report form. The patient will be tested for the most common genetic causes of deafness. Additional data will be collected from patient records and from local health register at Oslo University Hospital.

Hearing LossChildren With Hearing Differences2 moreThe goal of this project is to compare aided and unaided speech discrimination among infants with hearing loss and a cohort of infants with typical hearing. Working Hypothesis: Among this group of infants with hearing loss, performance will be significantly better when infants are tested while using amplification (i.e., aided condition) compared to when tested without amplification (i.e., unaided condition). Infants fit with optimally programmed amplification will perform similarly to the infants with typical hearing on speech discrimination tasks.
