Intraoperative EABR for Decision Making

Vestibular SchwannomaHearing Loss

In this study patients undergoing simultaneous translabyrinthine vestibular schwannoma resection and cochlear implantation are included. The goal of the study is to correlate the eABR results with postoperative hearing results.

Tinnitus in Patients With and Without Sensorineural Hearing Loss

TinnitusSubjective2 more

The aim of this study is to evaluate hearing characteristics in patients with and without tinnitus using DPOAE and specific tinnitus severity index (TSI) and tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) questionnaires in both groups. Purpose of the research: Demonstrate that the characteristics of tinnitus depend on the presence and magnitude of hearing loss. Research participants: 150 patients coming for further audiological treatment due to tinnitus. Data will be collected from an electronic database that is filled in during diagnostic processing. During the diagnostic processing, TSI and THI questionnaires will be filled in, a tone audiogram (TA) and DPOAE will be performed.

ICF in Cochlear Implant Users

Hearing Loss

The current project proposes a multi-center prospective follow-up cohort study aiming to realize an international framework to classify human functioning and disability in Cochlear Implant (CI) recipients using a standardized ICF framework. For this, ICF qualifiers which denote the magnitude of the level of health or severity of the problem will be quantified to enable comparison of data across countries and health-care disciplines. Adult subjects (≥18 years old) eligible for cochlear implantation, considering the local criteria of reimbursement, will be assessed one month preoperatively and six months post the activation of the speech processor using three audiological examinations, evaluating the participants' localization abilities, speech recognition and hearing thresholds, and six questionnaires, each evaluating different aspects of daily life functioning and disability in hearing-impaired persons.

Tinnitus and Arterial Hypertension

TinnitusHearing Loss1 more

Many authors link tinnitus to arterial hypertension. The aim of this study is to establish a possible relationship between them, analyze the severity of tinnitus related to arterial hypertension and analyze a possible influence of ototoxic drugs used to treat arterial hypertension

Hearing Loss, Vestibular Loss and Cognitive Performance

Vestibular Disorder

Hearing loss is an established independent risk factor for dementia. Likewise, recent research demonstrated cognitive deficits in subjects with vestibular loss. However, in these studies data have not been adjusted for the hearing status of the enrolled study subjects. As hearing loss prevalence is high in patients with vestibular loss, this could be a major confounder. Therefore, in this study the investigators investigate cognition in patients with bilateral vestibulopathy with and without hearing loss. The investigators adjust data for the hearing status of the patients to explore the link between hearing loss, vestibular loss and cognition.

SoundBite Hearing System 24 Month Multi Site Patient Use Study

Single Sided DeafnessConductive Hearing Loss

The objective of this multi-site observational study is to further assess the long-term patient use of the Sonitus SoundBite Hearing System. Information can be gained by assessing benefit for the subjects that were enrolled in the SoundBite Hearing System Long Term Multi Site Study (Protocol CLN006) for an additional 12 months.

SoundBite Hearing System Long Term Multi Site Patient Use Study

Single Sided DeafnessConductive Hearing Loss

This study is designed to collect data about the SoundBite™ Hearing System to answer specific questions. The hearing system has been cleared for commercial distribution by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sonitus hopes to learn from a larger group of users what features and settings of this device provide the best hearing ability for people diagnosed with Single Sided Deafness (SSD) or Conductive Hearing Loss (CHL).

Neonatal Hearing Screening at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is one of the most common congenital anomalies . It has been shown to be greater than that of most other diseases and syndromes (eg, phenylketonuria, sickle cell disease) screened at birth. Data from the newborn hearing-screening programs in Rhode Island, Colorado, and Texas showed that 2-4 of every 1000 neonates have hearing loss. Early Intervention at or before 6 months of age allows a child with impaired hearing to develop normal speech and language, alongside his or her hearing peers and can prevent severe psychosocial, educational, and language impairment. One of the most high risk population are neonates who spend time in the newborn intensive care unit , exposed to high frequency ventilation, hyperbilirubinemia, low birth-weight, and exposed to ototoxic medications. Auditory brainstem response , otoacoustic emissions , and automated Auditory brainstem response testing have all been used in newborn hearing-screening programs. otoacoustic emissions are fast objective, efficient, and frequency-specific measurements of peripheral auditory sensitivity are used to assess response of the outer hair cells to acoustic stimuli. To measure otoacoustic emissions, a probe assembly is placed in the ear canal, tonal or click stimuli are delivered, and the otoacoustic emissions generated by the cochlea is measured with a microphone .
