Auditory Training and Hearing Aid Satisfaction
Hearing ImpairmentSensorineuralAlthough hearing aids are the most common treatment for hearing loss, and have the potential to help seniors stay active and productive, almost 50% of them who receive hearing aids rarely if ever use them, a state of affairs sometimes referred to as "the hearing aid in the drawer" syndrome. clEAR's customized auditory brain training has been shown to be effective in improving adults' abilities to recognize speech, in reducing their perceptual effort associated with listening with a hearing loss, and in increasing their confidence to engage in everyday conversations. In the proposed research, we will determine whether older adults who receive hearing aids for the first time report higher satisfaction with their new hearing aids and have longer daily use time as a result of having completed clEAR's auditory brain training program for new hearing aid users.
Neuro 1 vs. Neuro 2 Sound Processors
Hearing LossSensorineural1 moreThis study evaluates the benefit of Neuro 1 sound processor upgrade in speech perfomance in adults. Half of participants will be tested with Neuro 1 first and Neuro 2, while the other half will be tested with Neuro 2 first and then Neuro 1.
Evaluation of the Effect of a Visio-Hearing Training Protocol on Spatial Hearing in Subjects With...
Cochlear Nerve DeafnessCochlear Diseases3 moreWe recently developed a new Neuro-immersion system based on virtual reality and 3D (dimension) motion tracking. This tool makes it possible to evaluate and record the spatial localization performance of sounds and to highlight localization deficits in the three dimensions of space in deaf patients. Unfortunately, there is currently no suitable support to compensate for these localization deficits. However, the discomfort felt by the patients is clearly verbalized. Thanks to the new virtual reality system, we are now able to develop a training protocol based on spatial sound localization tasks.
An Actual Use, Open-label Study Assessing Usability of Remote Assist to Program Cochlear Implant...
Hearing LossSensorineural2 moreClinical management of cochlear implant (CI) recipients involve programming, counselling, performance evaluation and habilitation. This requires the recipients to travel to the clinic for follow up appointments which can pose significant challenges for recipients, particularly those who live far away from the clinic. Remote Assist (RA) is a new solution that allows the clinician to make MAP and sound processor adjustments via the recipient's Nucleus Smart app (NSA) installed on their smart phone. With RA the clinician can also perform counselling using a video call directly via the NSA. As RA uses no specialized hardware and software that needs to be sent and retrieved back from the recipient, it has the potential to further improve the remote programming experience and convenience for both the recipient and the clinician.
Effect of Modulated Auditory Stimulation on Interaural Auditory Perception
Asymmetric Sensorineural Hearing LossThis study analyzes the effect of an equalizer-modulated auditory intervention on the asymmetry of interaural auditory perception in groups with different emotional states such as well-being, anxiety, depression and mixed anxiety-depression.
Triamcinolone Levels in Cochlear Perilymph
Cochlear Hearing LossIn this study Triamcinolone acetonide will be applied intratympanically before cochlear implant surgery. After round window exposure, a perilymph sample and simultaneously a blood sample will be drawn. Triamcinolone levels will then be analyzed in the samples.
Evaluation of Cochlear Baha 5 SuperPower Sound Processor on the Baha Attract System
Single Sided Sensorineural DeafnessMixed Hearing Loss1 moreThe aim of this clinical investigation is to evaluate objective and subjective hearing performance with the Cochlear Baha 5 SuperPower Sound Processor on the Baha Attract System, compared to the unaided hearing performance. Comparison of audiological test results with the same sound processor on a Baha Softband will also be performed. Short term safety parameters will be collected.
Effectiveness of Therapy Via Telemedicine Following Cochlear Implants
Congenital Sensorineural DeafnessThis study will assess the effectiveness of post-cochlear implant or hearing aid fitting Aural Rehabilitative Therapy (ART) delivered by means of telemedicine technology.
Treatment of Wolfram Syndrome Type 2 With the Chelator Deferiprone and Incretin Based Therapy
Diabetes MellitusIron Metabolism Disorders4 morePatients who are genetically diagnosed with the recently reported and rare Wolfram syndrome type 2 ( WFS2) and have the degenerative and symptomatic disease including signs such as diabetes, platelet aggregation defect or visual problems will be asked to participate in this study. Knowing the pathomechanism of WFS2 with rapid cell death, after doing baseline investigations to asses the severity of their disease, the participants will be offered a chelator therapy with in addition to the antioxidant Acetylcystein, in diabetic patients an Incertin (GLP-1 ) therapy will be offered as well. The baseline investigations will be repeated after 2 months and after 5 months of therapy in order to asses the progression of the disease and to show if the chelator and anti oxidant therapy and in diabetic patients the GLP-1 therapy could stop the progression of the disease.
