The RW-Precision-Coupler Clinical Investigation

Hearing Loss

The RW-Precision-Coupler Clinical Investigation is prospective, non-randomized, open label, single subjects repeated measures, longitudinal monocentric trial. The primary aim of this pre-market clinical investigation is to evaluate the clinical performance and safety of VSB together with the VSB RWP-Coupler in the treatment of hearing loss. As secondary aims are to evaluate the clinical performance of VSB together with RWP-Coupler by measuring Sound Field audiometry (SF), to evaluate the safety of VSB together with RWP-Coupler by measuring bone conduction (BC) thresholds and collecting and assessing adverse events.

Congenital Hearing Loss Secondary to Biallelic Mutations of the Otoferlin Gene (OTOF)

This is a first-in-human, multicenter, Phase 1/2, open-label, 2-part trial with a single-ascending dose patient cohort (Part A) and a bilateral expansion patient cohort (Part B) to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy of DB-OTO, an AAV based gene therapy in pediatric patients with biallelic OTOF mutations

Combined Electric and Acoustic Hearing (EAS) in Children and Adults

Cochlear ImplantHearing Loss

Cochlear implants are surgically implanted devices which restore the ability to hear to the hearing impaired. Improvements in surgery and electrodes have results in an increased number of adults and children who have residual hearing and can benefit from electric and acoustic hearing in the same ear. This is called Electric Acoustic Stimulation (EAS). Many studies have shown that adult EAS users show significant benefits for speech understanding in noise and spatial hearing tasks as compared to a CI paired only with a contralateral HA. Even though this type of hearing is becoming more common, there is limited research on how it can be beneficial to children with CIs. The benefits of this study are a greater understanding of the participant's speech understanding, binaural processing, and spatial hearing. The results will help audiologists and researcher better understand how cochlear implants work, specifically when using electric and acoustic hearing in the same ear.

Restoration of Spectral Resolution With Hearing-aid Amplification

Hearing Loss

The objective of this study protocol is to determine the efficacy of using aided measures of spectral resolution to set the dynamic range of hearing with hearing-aid amplification. Measures of spectral resolution will be obtained, as will measures of speech recognition.

Early Communication Intervention for Toddlers With Hearing Loss

Hearing LossBilateral

Improving spoken language outcomes for children with hearing loss has important public health implications. This is a randomized clinical trial of 96 children with hearing loss that examines the effects of a parent-implemented early communication intervention on prelinguistic and spoken language outcomes. The study is open for national recruitment. Parents participate via video call with their child and receive technology to assist with virtual visits.

Verification of the Efficacy/Safety of the Intratympanic Drug Delivery for Hearing Loss

Hearing LossSudden5 more

This study is a prospective, randomized pilot study. To verify an efficacy and safety of the Intratympanic drug delivery vehicle, patients who have not responded to the existing standard treatment will be enrolled. Hearing test, endoscopy of tympanic membrane and CT scans will be conducted after intratympanic treatment for evaluation.

Rehabilitation of Narrative Language in Children With Hearing Impairment and Developmental Language...

Hearing Impaired ChildrenDevelopmental Language Disorder

The importance of narrative skills is evident in their role in language development and their relation to important academic skills namely reading, comprehension, and writing. Narratives are also essential for competent social skills, and children with delayed language development are usually found to have less proficient social communication skills. Research demonstrates the effects of narrative language intervention on improved narrative structure and complexity in addition to improved receptive and expressive use of syntax, morphology and general language use in children with narrative language impairment in various types of communication disorders. Given the importance of narrative language abilities in language development and due to lack of research targeting the assessment and intervention of narrative language skills of Arabic speaking children with language impairments, this study is dedicated towards the assessment of narrative language in Arabic speaking children and the development of a comprehensive intervention program targeting narrative language skills and its application on children with hearing impairment and developmental language disorder.

Hearing Impairment, Strategies and Outcomes in VA Emergency Departments

Hearing LossEmergency Service1 more

HearVA involves six VA facility emergency departments (ED) over a 3-year intervention period. The first part of this study will test whether providing personal amplifiers to Veteran ED patients who self-report hearing difficulty is acceptable to these patients, can improve their hearing, enhance understanding of discharge instructions, and can reduce the risk of coming back to the ED in a short period of time (3 days and 30 days). The second part of the study will then identify whether ED staff can implement this program and achieve similar results. The second part will give ED staff increasing levels of responsibility for screening Veterans for hearing difficulty and providing personal amplifiers when such difficulty is detected.

Clinical Evaluation of Robot-assisted Cochlear Implant Insertion in Adults Using RobOtol® Compared...

Profound Bilateral Hearing Loss

The purpose of this study is to evaluate, via a randomised controlled design, the efficacy of the robotic insertion of cochlear implant, versus manual insertion. Robotic insertion will be performed using Robotol. This is a three years interventional study involving adults with profound bilateral hearing loss. Eligible subjects will be randomized in two groups : robotic insertion, or manual insertion. Each patient will be followed during 12 months.
