Assessment of Novel Sound Changing Principles in Hearing Instruments to Determine Their Application...

Hearing Loss

A methodical evaluation of novel sound changing principles in CE-labelled Sonova brand hearing instruments (e.g. Phonak hearing instruments) is intended to be conducted on hearing impaired participants. These sound changing principles are enabled by respective hearing instrument technologies and hearing instrument algorithms. The aim of the study is to investigate and asses strength and weaknesses of these novel sound changing principles in terms of hearing performance to determine their application in hearing instruments (Phase of development). Both, objective laboratory measurements as well as subjective evaluations in real life environment will be carried out. This will be a controlled, single blinded and randomised active comparator clinical evaluation which will be conducted mono centric at Sonova AG Headquarter based in Stäfa

Bilateral Benefit in Adult Users of the HiRes 90K Bionic Ear System

Hearing Loss

Normal hearing listeners gain important everyday benefits from listening with two ears (bilateral hearing) compared to their baseline performance with hearing aids. Advantages of bilateral hearing include the ability to determine where sounds are coming from and the ability to hear sounds and understand speech in noisy environments. Based upon these advantages, this study will (1) evaluate the benefit of hearing with two Bionic Ear implants (one in each ear) and (2) compare HiResolution sound processing with conventional sound processing.

Half-thickness Tragal Cartilage Graft vs Temporalis Fascia Graft Tympanoplasty Type I

Hearing Loss,Conductive

The rationale of this study is to find out the surgical outcome and success rates of tragal cartilage and temporalis fascia, subsequently to develop guide line in light of the results of this study for our department as our institute is going to follow one patient in one bed policy in future. The purpose of this study is to compare the graft success rate of cartilage versus temporalis fascia in tympanoplasty type I in our institute, as no such study has been conducted in our province before.

Use of Frequency Compression in Severe-profound Hearing Loss Adults

Frequency CompressionSevere-profound Hearing Impairment

The purpose of this study is to investigate the functional benefits of frequency compression vs no frequency compression or fitted to hearing loss in severe-profound hearing impaired adults with high frequency hearing losses. Thus, assessing whether hearing aids for this patient population can be adapted to improve speech perception.

Home Test of New Sound Processor

Hearing Loss

The purpose of this clinical investigation is to test a new Sound Processor (SP) to compare hearing performance of the new Sound Processor with unaided hearing and Baha 5 SP in adult subjects and to investigate which device (new Sound Processor versus Baha 5) the subjects prefer.

Evaluating Benefits of Hearing Aid Microphone Directionality Technologies

Hearing Loss

This study will evaluate the impact of hearing aid microphone directionality technologies and settings on speech understanding in noise for experienced hearing aid users. It will also evaluate the participant's spatial awareness of sounds using these different hearing aid microphone directionality technologies.
