Cochlear Implants : Influence of Microphone Aging and Dirtying
Hard of HearingCochlear implant microphones are subject to aging and dirtying. The evolution may affect their efficiency. Several signal coding strategies are used in cochlear implants and their behaviour may be more or less affected by the aging process. In this work the investigators wish to assess this phenomenon.
Exploring Interventions for Glue Ear During Covid-19
Hearing Impaired ChildrenGlue Ear2 moreDuring the Coronavirus pandemic children's hearing services are closed or reduced and grommet operations are part of the lowest priority group. In the absence of management options, this research study aims to see if bone conduction headphones either paired (via bluetooth) to a microphone or an app will help children with a hearing loss during this period of waiting. The child's quality of life is measured with validated questionnaires The study is over 3 months, and delivered remotely, with the product being sent to the family home and support offered via telephone/ video consulattion.
Adaptation and Pilot Testing of a Behavioral Parent Training Program for Parents of Deaf and Hard...
Hearing LossBehavior Disorders1 moreDespite being more likely than typical hearing children to experience disruptive behavior problems, children who are deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) rarely receive behavioral interventions to prevent the long-term costly outcomes of behavior problems. This pilot project will systematically adapt an evidence-based behavioral parent training (BPT) intervention to increase its acceptability and relevance for parents of young DHH children. Two parents of DHH children will be trained in the adapted BPT for DHH children. They will each deliver the intervention to five families with DHH preschool-aged children.
Inter Disciplinary Approach to Vocabulary Development in Hearing Impairment
Hearing Impaired ChildrenThe research aims to address to address the role of interdisciplinary working between professionals in the field of speech and language pathology/therapy. There is considerable evidence to state that when professionals work in collaboration with each other on particular goals that the outcomes are more favorable, functional and beneficial for the child.
INSPIRES Hearing Health Trial - INnovative Psychological Intervention to REduce Stigma in Hearing...
Hearing LossBackground: Reminding people they are moral adaptable human beings ("self-affirming") reduces the perceived stigma associated with wearing hearing aids and increases actual hearing aid use. The proposed study aims to reduce stigma in a representative sample of people aged over 60 from the general population who may or may not already be wearing hearing aids and improve multiple hearing health outcomes (e.g., attending screening, device use). Methods/Design: Double-blinded randomized controlled trial in which a representative sample of people aged over 60 from the general population will be asked to complete surveys about hearing stigma, hearing loss and multiple hearing health outcomes. Participants randomized to the control group will only complete the survey; participants in the intervention group will be asked to affirm their values. Six months later, all participants will complete the same survey to assess outcomes. Discussion: The proposed research will lead to a brief psychological intervention to reduce stigma in relation to hearing loss/aids.
Mini-Mental State (MMS-LS) and Sign Language
Prelingual DeafnessRetention Disorders1 moreIn France the prevalence of pre-lingual deafness is between 1 and 1.4 per 1000 habitants, and according to very conservative estimates, about 44 000 deaf persons use the sign language. Additionally, the prevalence of dementia in France is close to 1% (850 000 dements for a total population of 65 millions). The prevalence of dementia in pre-lingual deaf adults has also been described and is between 1 and 1.4 /100 000 habitants. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) of Folstein is a test recommended to perform the cognitive evaluation for the detection of mental disorders including dementia, and a consensual French version exists prepared by GRECO (Group of Research and Cognitive Assessments). However, to date, there are no simple, rapid and validated screening tests to study cognitive disorders in deaf persons who use the sign language. The only tests available allow a late diagnosis avoiding an optimal treatment of the patients.
AUditive Direct In-utero Observation (AUDIO): Prenatal Testing of Congenital Hypoacusis
Hearing LossThe objective of this randomized controlled study was to demonstrate whether fetal hearing can be assessed in utero.

Meniere DiseaseAllergic Rhinitis1 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate a previously FDA-approved medication that is known to help with allergy symptoms to see if it can decrease symptoms in patients with Meniere's Disease.
Use of ADHEAR, a Non-Implantable Bone Conduction Hearing System, in Children With Single Sided Deafness...
Conductive Hearing LossSingle Sided DeafnessA hearing loss affects the quality of life and the natural development of children. The new generation of hearing devices provides a huge number of options to them. These new hearing aids are often aesthetically acceptable, less invasive and user-friendly. The ADHEAR Non-Implantable Bone Conduction Hearing System is connected directly to the skin with a special adhesive adapter. The device transmits the sound to the mastoid by vibrating on the skull and stimulates the inner ear without any previous surgery. The objective of this study is to evaluate of the audiological benefit and subjective satisfaction of ADHEAR Audio Processor with Adhesive attachment in a group of children suffering from conductive hearing loss and/or single sided deafness.

Single Sided DeafnessThe primary objective of this study is to compare the SoundBite™ Hearing System to surgically implanted BCD systems.
