Chronic Renal InsufficiencyDiabete Mellitus1 more

To evaluate cardio-renal and overall safety profile of GE 145 320 mg I/ml Injection when compared to iopamidol 370 mg I/mL. The study will focus on elderly subjects with either chronic renal insufficiency, or diabetes mellitus (DM) requiring drug therapy, or congestive heart failure (CHF) NYHA Class III or greater, who are referred for a coronary catheterization procedure with or without PCI.

Response to Influenza Virus Vaccination in Patients Immunocompromised Due to Chemotherapy

Mamma CarcinomaHeart Failure

Patients treated with chemotherapy or immunosuppressives are at higher risk of influenza infection and mortality and morbidity are higher compared to healthy adults. Vaccination against the influenza virus can prevent these complications. In this study it is investigated whether vaccination during chemotherapy is effective in reaching protective serum antibody concentrations and the relation between time of vaccination (day 4 +/- 1 day versus day 16 +/- 1 day of the chemotherapy cycle).

Melatonin Supplementation to Improve Sleep in Patients With Heart Failure

Heart FailureSleep Disorders

The purpose of this study is to determine whether melatonin can improve sleep, quality of life and markers of heart failure in patients with heart failure.

Self-Management and Care of Heart Failure With Group Clinics (SMAC-HF)

Heart FailureCongestive

The purpose of this study is to help people with heart failure (HF) to manage their HF and to prevent rehospitalizations. Another purpose is to test the usefulness of clinical appointments and educational videotapes in teaching patients how to manage their HF. It is proposed that the group clinic intervention (HFcareGroup)will reduce rehospitalization, depression, and improve problem solving related to heart failure symptoms.

Hemodynamically Guided Home Self-Therapy in Severe Heart Failure Patients (HOMEOSTASIS)

Heart Failure

This study is a feasibility study of the HeartPOD™ Heart Failure Management System with DynamicRx® (HeartPOD system) in patients with severe chronic congestive heart failure. The device being studied in this trial monitors heart function and alerts the patient and physician of necessary changes to medication. The study will assess the safety, reliability, and preliminary efficacy of the HeartPOD™ system.

Safety and Efficacy Study of Istaroxime in Acute Decompensated Heart Failure Patients

Heart Failure

The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and efficacy of istaroxime in patients hospitalized for Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF) not requiring inotropic therapy. This will be done by comparing the hemodynamic effect of a 24-hour infusion of three different doses of the drug versus placebo. Efficacy will be measured as a change in Pulmonary Capillary Wedge Pressure from pre-infusion to 6 hours after infusion start. Secondary objectives will include the evaluation of clinical efficacy and safety through assessment of cardiovascular and renal tolerability as well as changes in biological markers such as brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and troponin I (TNI), and the neurohormones renin and aldosterone and also to assess the pharmacokinetics of istaroxime and its metabolites.

Influence of Pantoprazole on Human Myocardial Contractility at Patients With Congestive Heart Failure...

Congestive Heart Failure

Recently literature revealed facts, that show H+/K+ ATPase expression is not limited tot he stomach. H+/K+ ATPase was also found in smooth muscle cells and in other tissues (McCabe, R.D. et al., Am J Physiol. 1992). For myocard a localisation is only proven for rats yet (Beisvag, V. et al., Acta Physiol Scand. 2003). Moreover biochemical hints lead us to a highly probability of a myocardial H+/K+ ATPase (Nagashima, R. et al., Jpn Heart J. 1999).

FAST (Fluid Accumulation Status Trial)

Congestive Heart FailureCardiomyopathy3 more

Heart failure is a progressive disease that decreases the pumping action of the heart. This may cause a backup of fluid in the heart and may result in heart beat changes. Using very low electrical pulses that travel across the inside of the chest cavity, thoracic fluid status monitoring (OptiVol™) can measure the level of resistance to the electrical pulses, which indicates the level of fluid in the chest. The purpose of this study is to collect information related to fluid build up in the chest of subjects with heart failure.
