LYmphangiogenesis FacTors in Heart Failure States
Heart FailureHeart Failure With Reduced Ejection Fraction1 moreHeart failure often causes fluid to accumulate in the body, leading to congestion and swelling. However, some people who have had heart failure for a long time seem to have very little congestion or swelling, even when the heart failure is poorly treated. The investigators think that this is because lymphatic vessels are able to grow and remove fluid to prevent congestion. The investigators do not know how lymphatic vessels grow. This study will investigate the blood levels of various proteins to try to figure out how the lymph vessels of people with long-standing heart failure might grow.
SystemCHANGE™ Intervention on Medication Adherence in Older Adults With Heart Failure
Medication AdherenceHeart Failure1 moreThe purpose of this pilot RCT study is to evaluate the acceptability and feasibility of a SystemCHANGE™ intervention to improve medication adherence in older adults with heart failure. The intervention focuses on changing the individual's environment by incorporating medication taking into existing routines using small experiments with feedback, and receiving support from people who impact routines.
SGLT2 Inhibition in Diabetes and Heart Failure
Diabetes MellitusType 22 moreTo determine the effects of SGLT2 inhibition with empagliflozin on cardio-respiratory fitness in patients with systolic heart failure.
CardioMEMS HF System Post Approval Study
Heart FailureLeft-Sided Heart Failure1 moreThe purpose of the CardioMEMS HF System Post Approval Study (PAS) is to evaluate the use of the CardioMEMS HF System in patients with NYHA class III heart failure in a commercial setting.
Assess Measurements of Wireless Cardiac Output Device
Congestive Heart FailureHeart failure is a common cardiovascular problem which is increasing in both prevalence and incidence and associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. The management of heart failure patients is complex and has become a priority world over. Effective methods to keep heart failure patients out of the hospital are essential, both in the interests of the patient's health, as well as to reduce the burden on the health care system
Development & Testing of a Decision Aid for LVAD Placement
End-Stage Heart FailureBridge-to-Transplant LVAD Placement (BTT)3 moreThe goal of this project is to develop a patient-centered decision aid for decision-making about end-stage heart failure treatment. This study seeks to create a decision aid that presents outcomes, risks, projected experiences, and uncertainties about Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) placement to help patients make values-based decisions about placement. The investigators propose a mixed methods design involving a literature search of clinical evidence, semi-structured patient interviews, and quantitative data from a multi-site trial of patients receiving the decision aid compared to patients not receiving the aid.
Acute Kidney Injury Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin Evaluation of Symptomatic Heart Failure...
Acute Decompensated Heart FailureAcute Kidney InjuryAKINESIS is a clinical study to assess the utility of blood and urine NGAL tests in predicting worsening kidney function in patients who present with acute heart failure (AHF) and who are treated with diuretics. It is believed that rising NGAL levels in the blood and/or urine can predict acute kidney injury. It is also believed that patients who are admitted to the hospital with high NGAL levels in the blood/urine will have poorer outcomes.
Atrio-Ventricular (AV) Delay Optimization Using Echocardiography Versus the SonR Signal
Heart FailureThe purpose of this study is to evaluate an external device (SonR sensor) that is capable of detecting sounds created by the heart (SonR signal). Based on the sounds created by the heart and recorded by the SonR sensor, optimal timing settings for the cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) device may be determined. The investigators will then compare the timing settings suggested by SonR to the settings suggested from the echocardiogram. The objective of this study is to determine if differences exist between these different methods of timing the contractions of the top and bottom chambers of the heart and if the SonR signal is able to produce results similar to those of an echocardiogram.
Role of the Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System in the Mechanisms of Transition to Heart Failure...
ObesityAbdominalR2C2 study has shown that abdominal obesity is associated with a cardiac and vascular remodelling in healthy volunteers. This remodelling is correlated with renin-angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) activation and/or systemic fibrosis. R2C2 II study is designed to confirm the hypothesis that RAAS is associated with an early remodelling and implicated in the transition to cardiac failure in abdominal obesity.
Feasibility Assessment of the Aquadex FlexFlowTM Ultrafiltration System in Treating Non Hospitalized...
Heart FailureUltrafiltration (UF) technology is unique for its ability to extract fluid as an isotonic solution, therefore not causing substantial changes in NaCl concentrations, and the use of peripheral veins makes it feasible to use in out of hospital medical centers, for non compensated Heart Failure (HF) with a low response to diuretics. The use of UF in the United States and Europe in out of hospital HF centers is accepted as daily practice. Therefore the hypothesis of this study is that it is feasible for a professional team to effectively use the UF for short courses on non compensated HF patients with low or no response to Diuretics, in a dedicated out of hospital HF center.
