Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Disease in Diabetes
Cardiovascular DiseasesDiabetes Mellitus4 moreTo locate and identify genes contributing to the genetic component of subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Type 2 diabetes and to evaluate the impact of lifestyle and environment on the expression of these genetic components of subclinical CVD.

Framingham Offspring Study: Psychosocial Risk Factors
Cardiovascular DiseasesCoronary Disease3 moreTo examine the relationship between psychosocial characteristics, health behaviors, and the development of coronary heart disease among participants in the Framingham Offspring Study.

Heart Rate Recovery and Mortality
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart DiseasesTo investigate whether impaired heart-rate recovery after exercise is a powerful and independent predictor of mortality.

Genetic Epidemiology of Change in CVD Risk Factors
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart DiseasesTo extend knowledge of the genetic factors affecting the course of cardiovascular disease risk factor development over a substantial portion of an individual's lifetime.

Family Based Interventions: Preschool Children and Parent
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases1 moreTo assess the efficacy of a 2-year family-based weight prevention program in a cohort of overweight preschool children and overweight parent pairs.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Blood Vessels of the Heart
Heart DiseaseThis study is directed at evaluating patients with "myocardial ischemia" or poor blood supply to the heart muscle due to coronary artery disease. The major objective of this study is to determine the level of safety and effectiveness of magnetic resonance imaging at diagnosing coronary artery disease. In addition, this study will allow researchers at the National Institutes of Health to see a broad spectrum of disease, preserve clinical skills, and stimulate future ideas for clinical research....

Evaluation and Treatment of Heart Disease in Patients Not Participating in Research
ArrhythmiaCongenital Heart Defect1 moreThere is an important need to maintain clinical skills, provide quality training and expertise, and provide an environment that stimulates ideas for clinical research. This study permits inpatient evaluation and management of patients with heart disease who do not qualify to participate in studies currently being conducted by the Cardiology Branch of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

Arterial Stiffness in Type 2 Diabetic Patients With Severe Periodontitis
Coronary Heart DiseaseDiabetes Mellitus3 moreStudies were found that a significant relationship between the severe periodontitis and increased CAVI values. While the exact mechanisms linking periodontitis, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease are not yet fully understood, it is clear that these diseases are interconnected. There are limited data in the literature evaluating the risk of atherosclerosis in diabetic individuals with periodontal disease. In our survey, we hypothesised that severe periodontitis may be a risk factor for the development of subclinical atherosclerosis among people with type 2 diabetes. Thus, we aimed to investigate the potential risk of subclinical atherosclerosis by using a new surrogate marker CAVI in severe periodontitis patients with short-term diabetes.

Ticagrelor Versus Clopidogrel for CMD in Patients With AMI: A Retrospective Study Based on the Angio-IMR...
Coronary Heart DiseaseCoronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) is increasingly recognized as an important indicator for long-term prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The angiography-derived index of microcirculatory resistance (angio-IMR) is a novel guidewire-free measure for CMD in patients with AMI. Ticagrelor has recently been suggested to have additional benefits on coronary microcirculation beyond its antiplatelet effect. This study was designed to compare the protective effects of ticagrelor and clopidogrel on CMD and prognostic impact in patients with AMI, using the angio-IMR as a novel assessment tool.

Impact of Simulator-based Training in Transoesophageal Echocardiography
Imaging of Heart DiseaseThe investigators would like to evaluate how well intensive care trainees without previous experience in transesophageal echocardiography are able to perform a transesophageal echocardiography study in the clinical setting after completing a simulator based training compared to conventional training.
