New CVD Risk Factors for Lowered Cognitive Functioning
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases2 moreTo explore the associations between cognitive functioning and three major cardiovascular disease risk factors: high blood pressure; high total plasma homocysteine (tHcy); and ApoE e4 genotype.
Vascular Function in the Framingham Third Generation
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart DiseasesTo investigate the role of endothelial dysfunction and increased vascular stiffness as contributors to the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease.
Evaluation of Left Ventricular Volumes by Real-Time 3-Dimensional Echocardiography
Heart DiseasesQuantitative measurements of left ventricular volume and ejection fraction are useful in the management of patients with heart disease. Several imaging methods exist, but are limited by cost, invasiveness, or exposure to radio-isotopes. Conventional echocardiography is a noninvasive method that allows estimation of left ventricular size and function; however, quantitative measurements of volume are not widely used due to lack of reproducibility and inaccurate measurements. Real-time three-dimensional echocardiography is a new technique that can be used to derive volume measurements from a single image acquisition. We hypothesize that real-time three-dimensional echocardiography is an accurate method for making left ventricular volume measurements. We therefore propose to measure left ventricular volumes using real-time three-dimensional echocardiography in human subjects and correlate these measurements with magnetic resonance imaging, a more accurate noninvasive method for obtaining these measurements.
Pathobiological Determinants of Atherosclerosis in Youth (PDAY)
Cardiovascular DiseasesAtherosclerosis3 moreTo conduct a multicenter prevalence survey for characterizing pathologically the extent of atherosclerosis in the aortas and coronary arteries of young persons dying from accidental causes, suicide, or homicide.
Cardiac Arrhythmias and the Perception of Symptoms
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases1 moreTo investigate the differential diagnosis and longitudinal course of medical outpatients complaining of palpitations. Also, to further examine the process of cardiac perception, the psychological factors which influence it, and the accurate awareness of cardiac arrhythmias.
Inflammation Markers Over Time in Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular DiseasesCoronary Disease3 moreTo determine inflammation markers over time in cardiovascular disease. To test the hypothesis that measures of coagulation and fibrinolysis correlate with the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) and other thrombosis related disorders, and to help identify those individuals at greatest risk, using the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS) and Honolulu Heart Program (HHP) populations. These two genetically distinct populations had different event rates for CHD, and offered a unique opportunity to test associations that were uncovered by comparing results across populations.
Minnesota Heart Survey - Risk Factor Survey
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases4 moreTo continue surveillance of cardiovascular disease risk factors in the seven-county area of Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Predictors of Perioperative Cardiac Morbidity
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases4 moreTo determine the predictors of perioperative cardiac morbidity and mortality in patients at high risk who underwent major noncardiac surgery with general anesthesia.
Study of Sexual Dysfunction in Patients Included in a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Champagne-Ardenne...
Patients With Heart DiseaseSexual health is an important marker of individual quality of life and well-being of patients. Sexual dysfunction (SD) is common in patients with heart disease. Screening and management are recommended. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) seems to be a privileged moment to address this problem, but the management is often insufficient. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of SD in patients in CR in the Champagne-Ardenne region. Secondary objectives were to describe SD most frequently encountered, to identify risk factors of SD, to compare the feelings of patients about their sex life, before and after an acute cardiac event and to collect an estimate of the need for care by a dedicated sexology workshop. The investigators conducted an observational multicenter prospective study for descriptive and analytical purposes after approval by the Institutional review board. An anonymous questionnaire was distributed from June 1 to September 1, 2017 in patients participating in a cardiac rehabilitation program in the various centers in the region.
CardioSecur Connected Electrocardiography in General Care
Heart DiseasesConnected ECG1 moreHeart disease symptoms are a frequent reason of consultation in general medical practice. Only a few general practitioners are equipped with a 12 lead Electrocardiography (ECG) whereas this test is extremely useful for diagnosis orientation in cases of cardiac diseases.Cardiosecur allows the realization of a 15 or 22 leads ECG with only 4 electrodes connected to a smartphone or a tablet with an automatic interpretation function. The goal of the study is to evaluate the diagnostic value of Cardiosecur device regarding cardiac symptoms in family practice.
