To determine the correct size of endotracheal tubes (ETT) for endotracheal intubation of pediatric patients is no menial task. Although new methods have been investigated to determine ETT size, and the three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has been successful in the field of surgery, there are not many studies in the field of anesthesia. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of a 3D airway model for prediction of the correct ETT size, and compare the results with a conventional age-based formula in pediatric patients. : Thirty five pediatric patients under 6 years of age who were scheduled for congenital heart surgery. In the pre-anaesthetic period, the patient's computed tomography (CT) images were converted to STL files using the 3D conversion program. An FDM type 3D printer was used to print 3D airway models from the sub-glottis to the upper carina. ETT size was selected by inserting various sized cuffed-ETTs to a printed 3D airway model.

Babies can be born with heart problems and sometimes need a heart surgery to fix the heart problem. Heart surgery can cause swelling from the build-up of extra fluid. Swelling can make it harder for babies to breath and has to be treated with medicine called diuretics. Swelling is hard to measure in babies, so it can be hard to know how much diuretic they need to treat the swelling. The investigators are looking for a better way to measure swelling in babies who have had heart surgery. Ultrasound uses sound waves to take pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound is used to take pictures of babies before they are born and to take pictures of their heart after they are born. New ultrasound software has been made from a company called MuscleSound that can quickly measure the amount of swelling in adults, usually in less than 2 minutes. This software has not yet been used to measure swelling in kids. This study plans to learn more about swelling in babies and will try to measure swelling in babies before and after heart surgery with the new ultrasound software. The study will also make the same measurements in babies who do not have heart disease to compare to babies having heart surgery.

In this clinical study the investigators will compare blood pressure measurements obtained using the non-invasive, continuous and wireless Biobeat monitoring device (a wrist watch or a patch configuration) to an invasive arterial line (radial or femoral) in 30 patients immediately after cardiac surgery, at the intensive care unit.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the no-touch saphenous vein grafts that were used in coronary artery bypass surgery between 2003-2008 had a patency rate comparable to the left internal thoracic artery when the vein grafts were anatomised to the left anterior descending artery.

The purpose of this study is to determine the measuring accuracy of the truly non-invasive method estimated continuous cardiac output (esCCO) against the reference method transesophageal echocardiography in pediatric cardiac surgery. esCCO is calculated using the pulse wave transit time, which is defined as the time between the R-wave of the ECG and the 30% increase of the differentiated pulseoximetry waveform.

The aims of this prospective, observational study are to assess the current use of depression care in Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) patients, and to provide estimates for the resources needed to implement guideline-oriented depression health care acceptable to CHD patients with comorbid depression.

Coronary heart disease (CHD) and heart attacks pose a serious health risk to men and women, however the knowledge about the real-life AMI management in China is limited. Within a nation-wide and regional representative probability sample of hospitals in China, 27,800 AMI inpatient cases will be sampled randomly from 2001 to 2011. The sampled medical records will be reviewed and abstracted in the national coordinating centre, in order to evaluate the treatment pattern, outcomes, and cost for AMI patients, during the past decade. Basic data and innovative evidence will accelerate evidence-based clinical practice and policy making, and improve AMI patients outcomes finally.

The Environmental Polymorphisms Registry (EPR) Health and Exposure Survey is designed to gather health, family history of disease, environmental exposures and lifestyle data on adult EPR subjects. The EPR is a registry established to collect and store DNA samples from 20,000 volunteers from North Carolina and to serve as a resource to scientist investigating genotype-driven translational research of chronic conditions. Under this new protocol, we will administer a health and exposures survey to all EPR subjects. The information collected in the survey will be used to better characterize the EPR population thus making it more useful to NIEHS researchers. The survey contains approximately 200 questions. Data from the survey will help researchers develop hypotheses, design follow-up studies, and select appropriate subjects. The survey will be administered to EPR subjects using a modified version of the Dillman Total Design Method (TDM) for surveys. This method requires following specific time-dependent steps for survey administration that incorporate both self- and phone administration and other types of phone and mail contact. The goal of TDM is to maximize subject response rates.

Compared with standardized western medical drug therapy, this study is mainly about whether the combination of standardized western medical drug therapy and Chinese medical continued treatment, can further decrease the rate of cardiovascular events for stable angina patients and change the condition of angina.
