Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension in 'Diastolic' Heart Failure 2 (DASH-DHF 2)
Diastolic Heart FailureHypertensive Heart DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to examine how dietary changes affect the heart and blood vessels in patients with hypertension (high blod pressure) who have a condition called 'heart failure with preserved ejection fraction" (HFPEF). This condition is also known as "diastolic heart failure" or "heart failure with normal ejection fraction", and occurs even though the heart's pumping function is normal.

Specialized Pacing for Patients With Congenital Heart Disease
Congenital Heart DiseaseBradycardia SinusThe closed-loop stimulation (CLS) algorithm is a novel sensor-based technology that relies on the change in myocardial systolic impedance for modulation of the heart rate during physical and emotional stress.3 The pacing algorithm has been shown to be highly effective for a wide range of clinical scenarios. Despite the fact that congenital heart disease (CHD) patients are likely to derive significant benefit in terms of functional ability and aerobic capacity using this novel technology, the CLS system has not been adequately studied in this population. As many CHD patients also undergo epicardial placement of pacing systems at the time of concomitant cardiac surgery, CLS has been less often utilized in this population given almost no data in the setting of surgical electrode placement. The present study intends to examine the benefits of the CLS algorithm in the CHD population, employing the use of epicardial pacemaker systems in the study protocol.

iCBT for Long-term Conditions in IAPT
DiabetesChronic Pain4 moreSilverCloud provides internet-delivered interventions for depression and anxiety in NHS Mental Health Services. The interventions have proved successful in the management of depression and anxiety for clients presenting to mental health services, with recovery rates exceeding the national standard. Recently SilverCloud has embarked on tailoring the interventions for patients with long-term conditions including COPD, pain and diabetes. The purpose of the customisation is to make the interventions more meaningful and relevant to patients with LTCs, but all the while having the same goal of addressing depression and anxiety disorders. In doing so it would be expected that individuals might be in a better position to effectively self-manage their LTC. The current study, therefore, seeks to assess the possible effectiveness of implementing customised internet-delivered interventions for depression and anxiety for people with long-term conditions presenting to NHS mental health services.

Anti-thrombotic and Glucose Lowering Therapy in Diabetic Patients Undergoing PCI
Type2 Diabetes MellitusCoronary Heart DiseaseDiabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the main risk factors for ischemic events in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and diabetes is a factor in several post-PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) risk scores. However, until recently, there were almost no studies performed specifically in the diabetic population of patients undergoing PCI. This study aims to describe the anti-thrombotic regimens, clinical outcomes and current diabetes medical treatment in an unselected consecutive population of patients with DM undergoing PCI.

Arts & Health Education to Improve Health, Resilience, and Well-Being
HypertensionDiabetes11 moreThis is an 8-week randomized controlled trial to help address health, resilience, and well-being. Participants are randomized into either a health education group or an arts-based health education group. Both groups will attend for 8 weeks and various study assessments will be conducted in order to measure the experience and impact of the program. Anyone 18 years and older with a chronic health condition (for example, diabetes, hypertension, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, asthma, weight, anxiety, depression, cardiac, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and many more) are eligible to participate.

Combined Amiodarone and Electrical Cardioversion for Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation After Cardiac...
Cardiac DiseaseTo determine the efficacy of cardioversion and amiodarone for cardiac patients who develop postoperative atrial fibrillation

Bone Marrow Derived Mononuclear Cells for Ischemic Cardiomyopathy
Heart DiseaseThis is an evaluative, monocentric study in patients with chronic ischemic heart disease and left bundle branch block who received an ICD-CRT. It is an early investigation on the safety and effects of a single administration of bone marrow derived mononuclear cells after implantation of an ICD-CRT device as an adjunct to CRT and usual drug treatment.

Aspirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly
Functional DisabilityDementia5 moreASPREE-XT is a post-treatment, longitudinal observational follow-up study of ASPREE participants [ASPREE Investigator Group, 2013; www.aspree.org; McNeil et al 2017]. Although the ASPREE trial medication was ceased, the study activity was not stopped and ASPREE participants are continuing with scheduled visits and phone calls. An observational follow-up phase (ASPREE-XT), began in January, 2018. This will enable the monitoring of possible delayed effects of aspirin treatment, primarily on cancer incidence, metastases and mortality. In addition to monitoring the incidence of malignancy within the ASPREE cohort, the opportunity will be taken to observe any other residual effects of aspirin on the endpoints being monitored in the cohort. Continuity of contact with study participants is the key to retention of the cohort for any ongoing or future studies.

Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance for the Occluded Infarct-Related Artery Treatment
Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether opening an occluded infarcted artery 3-28 days after an acute myocardial infarction in high-risk asymptomatic patients with preserved infarct zone viability improves left ventricular systolic function and volumes at 6 months follow-up. The secondary purpose is to assess the changes in myocardial tissue characteristics after late percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
