Factors Influencing Readmission Rates of Acute Traumatic Subdural Hematoma in the Elderly

Traumatic Subdural Hematoma

Acute traumatic subdural hematomas (TSDH) readmission rate is high (27.8%) with an increase in morbidity and cost for the elderly. This study identifies risk factors affecting readmission rates for these patients and presents strategies to reduce it.

Antithrombotic Therapy in Patients Undergoing CIED Surgery - HEMATOMA NO MORE Registry

Device Related InfectionAntithrombotic Drugs3 more

Hundreds of thousands patients undergo implantation or replacement of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) annually in Europe, and up to 50% of these subjects receive antiplatelet agents or oral anticoagulants. Antithrombotic therapy increases the risk of developing pocket hematoma which in turn is associated with an increased risk of potentially fatal device-related infections when clinically significant. Aim of the registry is to retrospectively (pilot local registry in Tuscany) and prospectively (multicenter national registry in Italy) investigate the different strategies for the management of antithrombotic therapy and the related complication rates (1-month and 12-months) in patients undergoing CIED surgery in a real-world setting. The registry will also provide data on the economic impact of different management strategies and complications.

The Size of Pelvic Hematoma Can be a Predictive Factor for Angioembolization

Multiple Pelvic Fractures

Unstable pelvic fracture with bleeding can be fatal, with a mortality rate of up to 40%. Therefore, early detection and treatment are important in unstable pelvic trauma. We investigated the early predictive factors for possible embolization in patients with hemodynamically unstable pelvic trauma. The purpose of this study was to predict the necessity of embolization and the timing of angiography using CT scans.

Risk of Hematoma After Ketorolac Use in Reduction Mammoplasty.

Breast ReductionReduction Mammoplasty2 more

The investigators hope to answer the question, "does ketorolac increase the risk of hematoma after reduction mammoplasty?" using a case-control study. All patients who developed a hematoma post reduction mammoplasty (cases) at our institution, and match these with women who had an uncomplicated reduction mammoplasty (controls), and then compare frequency of ketorolac exposure between these two groups as the primary outcome. If ketorolac increases the risk of hematoma, one should expect cases to have been exposed to ketorolac more frequently than controls. Based on previously existing literature, the investigators hypothesize that cases and controls will not differ in their ketorolac exposure, that is, ketorolac does not increase the risk of hematoma.

Intra-articular Volumetric Assessment After Total Knee Arthroplasty

Hematoma

The purpose of the study: is to quantify the amount of post-operative effusion or hematoma present after total knee arthroplasty pre-operatively, post-operative day #0,1. Patients undergoing a total knee arthroplasty will undergo an MRI on the operative knee at the following times: Pre-operatively Post-operative day #1 (approximately 16-20 hours post op) Post-operative day #2 (approximately 36-40 hours post op) This will be conducted by the Loma Linda radiology department as per normal protocols. No special imaging procedures will be undertaken. Subjects will be both male and females, they will be patients from the Principle Investigator and Co-Investigators practice. Subjects will be between the ages of 18-89 years of age. The total participation will last approximately 30 days. Subject selection will be approximately 10 English speaking, both male and female between the ages of 18 to 89 years of age. Subjects will be recruited from the Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators clinic. There will be no advertising or electronic recruiting. The study is expected to last 12 months.

Scandinavian Multicentre Acute Subdural Hematoma (SMASH) Study

Acute Subdural Hematoma

In a multi-national population-based cohort, the investigators want to compare the clinical course and clinical outcome of elderly patients (≥70 y/o) compared with younger patients (< 70 y/o) with acute subdural hematoma treated surgically. An improved understanding of the clinical outcome and the prognostic factors of acute subdural hematomas would allow physicians to make better decisions about treatment options in traumatic ASDH in the elderly population.

An Update on Intracerebral Hemorrhage

Intracerebral HemorrhageStroke1 more

The intracerebral hemorrhage study is a multicenter , combination of prospective and retrospective observational cohort study led by Dr. Muhammad Junaid Akram, PhD scholar at Chongqing Medical University. Prof Dr. Qi Li will be the senior consultant for the study. The study will be focusing on natural history, epidemiological , radiological, rehabilitative and clinical aspects as well as the effect of various treatments on the hemorrhagic patients. The study related data of the patients diagnosed with intracerebral hemorrhage will be collected in prospective and retrospective ways. The prognostic data for the patients will be assembled and collected via using different outcome measures at different points of time.
