Cryotherapy of Sclerotomy Sites for Prevention of Late Postvitrectomy Diabetic Hemorrhage

Late Postvitrectomy Diabetic Hemorrhage.

Late vitreous hemorrhage in postvitrectomized diabetic eyes may be due to fibrovascular tuft formation in sclerotomy sites. Cryotherapy of sclerotomy sites may prevent bleeding by regressing the fibrovascular tuft. This study will detect the safety and efficacy of cryotherapy of sclerotomy sites for prevention of late vitreous hemorrhage in vitrectomized diabetic eyes.

Magnesium is neuroprotective in neonatal animal models of acquired hypoxic-ischemic and/or inflammatory cerebral lesions. It is associated with a significant reduction of perinatal death and cerebral palsy in some observational studies. The objective of the study is to assess if prenatal magnesium sulfate given to women at risk of preterm birth before 33 week's gestation is neuroprotective.

Robotic-assisted Radical Prostatectomy

The prophylactic administration of tranexamic acid reduces blood loss during procedures at high risk of perioperative bleeding. Several studies in neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, and orthopedics confirm this finding. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of tranexamic acid on peri-and postoperative blood loss and incidence and severity of postoperative complications. A prospective, double-blind, randomized study is conducted to evaluate the effect on several parameters. Based on pilot study data the investigators decided to include 200 patients in the period from February 2020 to March 2022. The patients will be randomly assigned to study and control groups of 100 patients each. The minimum follow-up will be 3 months.

Comparing Two Doses of IV Esomeprazole After Successful Endoscopic Therapy

Peptic Ulcer Bleeding

The investigators used two different doses of esomeprazole (40 mg IV q.d. and 40 mg IV q6h for three days followed by esomeprazole 40 mg q.d. orally in two groups) after successful endoscopic therapy with heat probe therapy or hemoclip placement. The goal of this study is to assess the outcomes of two different regimens of low vs. high dose of intravenous esomeprazole after endoscopic therapy in patients with peptic ulcer bleeding.

Reducing Blood Loss During Cesarean Section by Topical Versus IV Tranexamic Acid

Cesarean Section Complications

Tranexamic (TXA)acid is an inexpensive, antifibrinolytic drug long used to control bleeding due to surgery, menorrhagia, or trauma. Additionally, tranexamic acid has been shown to reduce bleeding during cesarean delivery as well as the need for additional uterotonic agents, albeit to a minimal degree. However, previous studies have been performed only in women with a standard risk for postpartum hemorrhage( PPH) and have not focused on assessing the effects of tranexamic acid in high-risk women. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of IV versus topical application of tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss during and after elective C.S. The Research Question Is topical application of Tranexamic acid effective in reducing blood loss during and after an elective Caesarean section? The Research Hypothesis the TXA could be able to reduce blood loss during and after elective Caesarean section. The null hypothesis will, therefore, state that: There will be no difference between topical and IV TXA and placebo in reducing blood loss during and after elective Caesarean section.

Bleeding

In this research study the investigators want to learn more about how a medication called tranexamic acid (TXA) could help reduce bleeding during Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) surgery. TXA is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the reduction of bleeding for many types of surgical procedures. TXA works by slowing the breakdown of blood clots and helps to prevent bleeding. From previous studies, TXA has been shown to effectively prevent bleeding in patients undergoing heart, spine and skull remodeling surgeries. As PAO surgery has been associated with significant blood loss when compared to other types of joint surgeries. In order to try and avoid bleeding that may lead to complications, different strategies can be used. In this research study the investigators want to learn more about how a medication called tranexamic acid (TXA) could help reduce bleeding during PAO surgery.

Postpartum Hemorrhage

Increased blood loss after vaginal or cesarean delivery is one of the top causes of maternal complications. Oxytocin is a common medication given to mothers by IV or an injection to limit the amount of blood loss after delivery. The investigators do not know the best time after delivery that oxytocin should be given. This research is being done to find out if starting the medication oxytocin right after the baby is born or after the placenta comes out decreases the amount of blood lost after birth when we delay cord clamping after birth.
