Propranolol, Carvedilol and Rosuvastatin in the Prevention of Variceal Bleeding in Cirrhotic Portal...

CirrhosisPortal Hypertension1 more

Patients with hepatic cirrhosis and previous variceal bleeding will be randomly assigned to use propranolol or carvedilol. After 8 weeks, rosuvastatin or placebo will be blindly added to nonresponders (HVPG measurement > 12mmHg) for another 8 weeks and hemodynamic response will be assessed again. Surrogate serum markers of portal hypertension will be evaluated and correlated to HVPG values and to its variations.

Single Dose Tranexamic Acid in Reducing Blood Loss During Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC

Cytoreductive Surgery

The Tranexamic Acid group will receive an intravenous bolus of (10 mg/kg) in 100 ml of normal saline over 20 minutes after induction of anesthesia and before surgical incision. In the control group, patients will receive a placebo of 100 mL 0.9% normal saline. The primary endpoint is reduction in blood loss, while the secondary endpoint was the number of patients needing transfusion and occurrence of postoperative thrombotic complications (myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolism, renal failure, or bowel infarction) within 30 days after surgery.

Postpartum Video Education

Postpartum HemorrhagePostpartum Preeclampsia5 more

This is a prospective, single-center, randomized control study to determine if video education at the time of postpartum discharge improves patient knowledge on the warning signs for the top three causes of severe maternal morbidity (infection, hemorrhage, and blood pressure disorders) in the first seven days following delivery. Participants will be randomized to written discharge education + video education (intervention) vs standard discharge education (control). They will complete a baseline questionnaire and a post-discharge education questionnaire during their postpartum stay to assess for knowledge improvement. The investigators hypothesize that video education will improve patient's knowledge of severe maternal morbidity warning signs.

Application of Amyloid PET in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

Cerebral Amyloid AngiopathyIntracranial Hemorrhages1 more

In this project, we will try to enhance the diagnostic potentials of amyloid PET in CAA by combination of dynamic amyloid PET with MRI SWI and MR perfusion images. We will also try to investigate the roles of CAA in patients with drug-related ICH and validate the accuracy of clinical CAA diagnostic criteria. In addition, we will try to study the characteristics of long-term progression of amyloid deposition in CAA patients. This project will enroll 100 patients with ICH, 30 patients with AD, and 30 control subjects. Each patient will receive the above image studies, followed by data analysis and comparison.

The Efficacy of Esomeprazole Premedication on Intraoperative Bleeding During Gastric ESD

Stomach Neoplasms

This will be a single-centre, randomised, endoscopist-blind, parallel-group study in patients who are scheduled endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for gastric mucosal lesion. The primary objective is to observe whether a regimen of 7-day oral esomeprazole premedication can alleviate intraoperative bleeding in patients scheduled for ESD due to gastric mucosal lesions.

Comparing Blood Loss During Caesarean Section Between Manual Separation of Placenta & Conservative...

Haemorrhage

to compare the blood loss during caesarean section between two different methods of separating the placenta after fetal extraction, keeping in mind that most blood loss occurs after placental separation.

Amr's Maneuver and Postpartum Hemorrhage

Postpartum Hemorrhage

The impacts of using Amr's manoeuvre (cervical traction) on atonic postpartum hemorrhage is a randomized controlled, multi-centre study that aims to compare the incidence of post partum hemorrhage (PPH> 500 ml blood loss) within the first 24 hours of labor after using Amr's maneuver with active management of the third stage versus active management alone
