The Pilot Clinical Study of PG2 Injection on Hemorrhagic Stroke
Hemorrhagic StrokeAstragalus membranaceus (AM) is used to treat stroke for a long time, and a number of studies have shown that AM can reduce cerebral infarction area and has anti-oxidation activity. PG2, a sterile powder of polysaccharides isolated from the root of astragulus (Huang-Chi) for intravenous injection, has been approved as a botanical drug by TFDA. Hemorrhagic stroke will induce secondary peri-blood clot edema and that may increase intracranial pressure to exacerbate clinical symptom. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of PG2 on hemorrhagic stroke.
PREvention of VENous Thromboembolism In Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients
Hemorrhagic StrokeVenous Thromboembolism1 morePatients with cerebral hemorrhage (ICH) have a high risk of venous thromboembolism. Intermittent pneumatic compression combined with elastic stockings have been shown to be superior to elastic stockings alone in reducing the rate of asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis after ICH in a randomized trial (4.7% vs. 15.9%). Graduated compression stockings alone are ineffective in preventing deep vein thrombosis in patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Less clear is the role of anticoagulation in the prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients with ICH because the use of anticoagulants may cause an enlargement of the hematoma. In a multicenter, randomized trial, the investigators will assess the efficacy and safety of enoxaparin in the prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage. Enoxaparin (40 mg once daily) or standard therapy (graduated compression stockings and/or intermittent pneumatic compression and/or early mobilization) will be given subcutaneously for not less than 10 days beginning after 72 hours from stroke onset.

Analyses of heart rate variability, electroencephalgraphy,nearinfrared spectroscopy, cerebral autoregulation, and brain injury specific biomarkers in blood and cerebrospinal fluid will be performed.
Vision Loss Impact on Navigation in Virtual Reality
StrokeIschemic13 moreThe purpose of this research is to better understand the impact of cortically-induced blindness (CB) and the compensatory strategies subjects with this condition may develop on naturalistic behaviors, specifically, driving. Using a novel Virtual Reality (VR) program, the researchers will gather data on steering behavior in a variety of simulated naturalistic environments. Through the combined use of computer vision, deep learning, and gaze-contingent manipulations of the visual field, this work will test the central hypothesis that changes to visually guided steering behaviors in CB are a consequence of changes to the visual sampling and processing of task-related motion information (i.e., optic flow).
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Post-Stroke Visual Field Defects

Plasticity occurs in areas of residual vision (ARV) at the visual field which are the functional counterpart of partially damaged brain regions at the areas around brain lesion. Few treatment options are currently available for post-stroke VFD. In this pilot study, the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) applied to these areas on VFD in patients with cortical infarction will be studied. Patients will be divided into two groups; an active group which will receive active stimulation and a sham group which will receive placebo stimulation through a sham coil.

Hypothermia seems promising also in other acute hypoxic-ischemic or in brain swelling associated cerebrovascular disease. The narrow-time-frame is a major issue ("time is brain"). To provide immediate cooling without delay, easy to use, mobile and effective methods are needed. Cold infusions (4 °C) are an accepted standard worldwide. The RhinoChill (BeneChill, USA) is a new device. A comparison of these two induction methods has never been done before. Neither was the effect of cold infusions on brain-temperature measured. For the first time iCOOL 1 compares feasibility, safety and efficacy of the two methods.
