Therapeutic Efficacy of Oral L-Ornithine-L-Aspartate on Minimal Encephalopathy
Hepatic EncephalopathyThe study aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of L-ornithine-L-aspartate in the management of hepatic encephalopathy.
Coenzyme Q10 and Meclofenoxate in Hepatic Encephalopathy
Hepatic EncephalopathyCoenzyme Q101 moreHepatic encephalopathy is a syndrome occurs in patients with liver cirrhosis and is defined as neuropsychiatric abnormalities in patients with liver impairment, characterized by personality changes, intellectual impairment, and an impaired level of consciousness. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a necessary cofactor of the mitochondrial metabolism. It provides a High antioxidant and protective effects on age-related morbidities such as hypertension, heart failure and neurodegenerative diseases and hepatoprotective effects in drug related hepatic impairment. Meclofenoxate is a cholinergic nootropic drug used clinically to improve memory, mental function and general cognition.
To Compare Efficacy and Safety of Lactulose Versus Polyethylene Glycol for Treatment of Overt Hepatic...
CirrhosisAll patients presenting to the emergency department of Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences with known cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy with grade II will be included in the study. The patient will be randomized into one of the two arms of lactulose or polyethylene glycol. The patient on the lactulose arm will be administered 20 to 30 g of lactulose orally or by nasogastric tube (3 or more doses within 24 hours ) or if oral intake was not possible or inadequate. The Dose will be repeated to ensure 3-4 loose motions per day. The Polyethylene Glycol group will get 17 gm of PEG (Polyethylene Glycol) administered orally or via nasogastric tube. PEG (Polyethylene Glycol)will be administered in 3-4 doses in 24 hours to ensure 3-4 loose stools per day.
Eye Movement Testing for Diagnosing Encephalopathy in Patients With Liver Disease
CirrhosisHepatic EncephalopathyThis study involves utilizing a noninvasive computer application (Neurofit) that performs oculometric assessment of dynamic visual processing in patients with liver cirrhosis to see if the presence of advance liver disease influences eye movement metrics.
Diet Management on Hepatic Encephalopathy of Patients With Variceal Bleeding After Intrahepatic...
Hepatic EncephalopathyHepatic encephalopathy is a severe complication of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) treatment in patients with cirrhosis and variceal bleeding. This study is specially designed to explore whether diet management strategy could decrease incidence of encephalopathy after TIPS treatment.
Diagnosis of Covert/Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy by Means of Continuous Reaction Time Measurement...
Liver CirrhosisHepatic EncephalopathyThe investigators wish to investigate how the Continuous Reaction Time (CRT) method can be used in the diagnosis and monitoring of covert hepatic encephalopathy (cHE)in patients with cirrhosis of the liver. The hypothesis is that the CRT method (duration 10-2 minutes) can serve as a tool in the diagnosis and monitoring of cHE and is an alternative to using the Portosystemic Encephalopathy Test (PSE)(duration 20-25 minutes).
Nitazoxanide Plus Lactulose Versus Lactulose Alone Treatment of Hepatic Encephalopathy
EncephalopathyHepaticHepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a reversible neuropsychiatric syndrome associated with chronic and acute liver dysfunction. It is characterized by cognitive and motor deficits of varying severity. Treatment options include lactulose administered orally or by nasogastric tube or enema, non-absorbable antibiotics, and protein-restricted diets. Nitazoxanide is an oral agent indicated for the treatment of infectious diarrhea caused by Crytpsporidiumparvum and Giardia lamblia. Basu and colleagues presented a pilot prospective study at the 2008 American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases meeting showing clinical improvement in HE among cirrhotic patients who received nitazoxanide and lactulose.
Treatment of Hepatic Encephalopathy With Flumazenil and Change in Cortical GABA Levels in MRS
Hepatic EncephalopathyLiver CirrhosisThe purpose of this study is to test feasibility of measuring flumazenil-induced changes in cortical GABA levels observed with localized 1H-MRS in relation to changes in severity of hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in subjects with non-alcoholic liver cirrhosis. This study is a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, cross-over design.
Antioxidants and Zinc Improving Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy In Truck Drivers; a Pilot Study
Minimal Hepatic EncephalopathyMinimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) can have a far-reaching impact on quality and ability to function in daily life and may progress to overt Hepatic Encephalopathy. Patients with MHE were missed in clinical follow up and are more exposure to work accident. The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of oral supplementation of antioxidant and zinc gluconate Versus Lactulose inTruck driver cirrhotic patients with MHE.
