Hepatitis B VaccinesBackground Hepatitis B virus (HBV) co-infection in individuals with hepatitis C virus (HCV) can enhance the severity of hepatitis and the risks of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Hepatitis B vaccine is an effective measure to prevent HBV infection. Whether patients with HCV infection have non-protective antibody responses to hepatitis B vaccination more frequently than healthy subjects is still controversial and studies about cytokine response have been seldom reported. Methods Not-in-treatment patients with chronic HCV infection and 1:2 community/gender matched healthy control were obtained from a community-based screening. All participants received three doses of hepatitis B vaccine (20 μg HBsAg/ml/dose) on 0, 1 and 6 months schedule. Anti-HBs was tested 1 month after the third dose of vaccination and was compared between two groups. Spot-forming cells (SFCs) of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-5 (IL-5) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) produced by lymphocyte were tested by enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) and were compared between two groups.
Hepatitis A Vaccine Dosing Regimens Among Pediatric Patients on Immunosuppressive Therapy
Autoimmune Rheumatologic DiseaseThe study is a prospective, single centre, double-blinded randomized controlled trial whose goal is to compare the immune response of a population of immunosuppressed pediatric rheumatology patients on immunosuppressive medications to two different doses of Hepatitis A vaccine. The objectives are (a) to confirm that adolescents, like their adult counterparts, have a reduced immune response to hepatitis A vaccine, and (b) to compare the immunogenicity of two different dosing options of vaccine for this age group after one and two doses. A total of 60 adolescents aged 12 - 15 years with confirmed chronic rheumatologic conditions for which they are being treated with an immunosuppressive therapy will be recruited from the Rheumatology Clinic at Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH). Those found to have no immunity to hepatitis A will be enrolled. Informed, written consent will be obtained from the parent or guardian of subject, with assent obtained from the study subjects. Subjects will be randomly assigned to two doses of either Avaxim Pediatric® or Avaxim ® (adult) vaccine (Sanofi Pasteur Canada), six months apart, with hepatitis A titres done at baseline and one month after each dose. Both formulations are licensed for this age group.

This study mainly investigated the relationship between Direct Acting Antiviral Treatment effect and the functional activity of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and natural killer cells (NK cells) in Chronic Hepatitis C.
Hepatitis B Vaccine for Non-responders
Hepatitis BIn the current study, the investigators study the efficacy of the HBAI20 vaccine to induce seroprotection in registered non-responders (adults who were previously vaccinated with the HBVaxPro-10μg but did not achieve seroprotection). The study will further assess the safety of the HBAI20 vaccine in comparison with HBVaxPro-10μg.

Hepatitis BLiver Cirrhosis2 moreWith over 280 000 chronic carriers, 2,500 new annual cases and 1,300 deaths each year, hepatitis B is currently a frequent and potentially severe disease in France, despite efforts towards prevention and effective care. In terms of prevention, France has very low immunization coverage (27.7%) and a high percentage of people ignoring HBV status (55%), leading to a delay in care. This is partly explained by poor knowledge of hepatitis B infection in the general population and an underestimation of the health impact of hepatitis B by doctors and health officials. Until recently, there have been no national guidelines governing its implementation (which is variable depending on the structures where screening is performed) and an insufficient evaluation of screening practices. Thus, data on the severity of liver disease, indications for treatment of HBV-infected patients and data on the use of vaccination for nonimmunized people are scarce. Furthermore, while HIV rapid tests are beginning to be used more widely, particularly to address the issue of people who do not come back and collect their results and to better adapt "counselling", their usefulness to detect of hepatitis B virus has not been evaluated to date. The main objective of the Optiscreen B Study is to determine the benefit, if any, of using rapid tests as a screening tool to improve diagnosis, care and prevention of hepatitis B. Individuals risk of HBV-infection will be randomized into 2 groups, one group for which screening will be performed by usual serological test and a second group for which screening will be based on rapid tests. Centers will be selected to represent a diverse range of health centers whose aims include screening, prevention and/or vaccination.
