The Pathogenesis of Hepatitis C Virus Vertical Transmission
Hepatitis CInfection Transmission1 moreTo evaluate for the presence of HCV Core protein, HCV RNA and SPP in the placenta and fetal membranes using paraffin-embedded sections and post-delivery specimens respectively. In parallel, we will assess placental tissue for evidence of HCV infection using a novel in situ hybridization technique and translate our in vitro findings to these in vivo samples. Our overall hypothesis is that cytotrophoblasts at the maternal-fetal interface within the placenta serve as a "barrier" that must be crossed during vertical transmission and that cytotrophoblasts are permissive to HCV at a low level that may be enhanced under certain conditions. By comparing the regulation of key steps in the intracellular life cycle of HCV in cytotrophoblasts to highly permissive hepatocytes, significant differences in HCV regulation should be revealed. Based on our preliminary data, our working hypothesis is that HCV Core protein is differentially processed in cytotrophoblasts compared to hepatocytes.

Study to Assess Seroprevalence of Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and Bordetella Pertussis in Mexico
Hepatitis AViral Hepatitis VaccinesThis study will assess the seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus (HAV), hepatitis B virus (HBV) and Bordetella pertussis (B. pertussis) in adolescents and young adults in Mexico.

Mother-to-child Hepatitis D Transmission
Hepatitis DTransmissionHBV can be transmitted from mother-to-child, with a risk increasing according to maternal HBV DNA during pregnancy. HDV is a defective virus using HBs Ag for its own replication. Nucleosides analogues have only a minor impact on quantitative HBs Ag level. Data about vertical HDV transmission are old, justifying a new study.

Prevalence of IL28B Polymorphism in Hepatitis C Patients
Hepatitis CResponse to peginterferon and ribavirin treatment in hepatitis C (HCV) depends on viral and host factors. Single nucleotide polypmorphisms (SNP) near to IL28B gene (especially at rs12979860 and rs8099917) are strongly associated with the response to treatment in HCV genotype 1 infection, less so in HCV genotype 2/3 infection. CC genotype in rs12979860 and TT genotype at rs8099917 are associated with good treatment outcome. Asian populations have high prevalence of CC genotype in other studies, which can explain relatively good response to peginterferon/ ribavirin in genotype 1 infection in Asians compared with Caucasians.

Hepatitis C Infection in World Trade Center Responders
Hepatitis C InfectionThis study provides Hepatitis C virus screening to the members of the World Trade Center Health Program followed at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai born during 1945-1965, and linkage to care for those found infected. The study will also determine if exposure to human remains, blood and/or bodily fluids during the World Trade Center Health Program activities are associated with Hepatitis C virus infection. These findings would be relevant to the larger United States population, especially to persons born during 1945-1965 who are at high risk of Hepatitis C virus infection.

Chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV)This is an observational, prospective, open-label, single-arm, multicenter, real-life study designed to observe the impact of paritaprevir/ritonavir/ombitasvir with dasabuvir regimen (Viekirax®/Exviera®, 3D regimen) on total daytime physical activity and fatigue in participants with HCV GT1.

'Fibrosis in the Lost Hepatitis C Population - Track, Trace and Treat'
Chronic Hepatitis cObjective: To coordinate active tracing of chronic hepatitis C patients lost to follow-up to inform them about there disease severity and treatment options. Study design: This is a prospective cohort study, which will start as a pilot study in the Radboudumc Population: lost to follow-up chronic hepatitis C patients in the region Nijmegen. This so-called lost population consists of all patients, that in the past have been identified at the Radboudumc but who are currently lost to or have been withdrawn from follow-up. The time-span of interest will be 2000-2015. We estimate that this project will retrace 100 lost patients through this search.

Prediction Model Based on Computed Tomography Liver Volume for the Short-term Mortality in Hepatitis...
Acute-on-Chronic Liver FailureHepatitis B1 moreHBV-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) deteriorates rapidly with a high short-term mortality. Early identification and accurate prognostic prediction was critical to improve survival rate. This study was sought to determine the liver volumetry as predictor for short-term mortality in HBV-ACLF and develop a simpler prognostic model based on liver morphology. Liver volumetry were determined from CT at admission. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify the optimum prognostic indicators and develop prognostic model. Additionally, receiver operating characteristic curves were analyzed to evaluate the predictive ability of the model.

HepatitisIt has been known for many years that the heart and the liver are intimately related. There is a mutual interaction between the function of the heart and the liver and a broad spectrum of acute and chronic entities that affect both the heart and the liver. Chronic hepatitis C virus infection affects more than 3% (170 million) of the world's population.
