Real World Evidence of the Effectiveness of Paritaprevir/r - Ombitasvir, ± Dasabuvir, ± Ribavirin...

Chronic Hepatitis C

The interferon-free combination regimen of ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir/ with or without dasabuvir (ABBVIE REGIMEN) ± ribavirin (RBV) for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) has been shown to be safe and effective in randomized controlled clinical trials with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria under well controlled conditions. This observational study was the first effectiveness research examining the ABBVIE REGIMEN ± RBV, used according to local label, under real world conditions in Israel in a clinical practice patient population.

HCV Self-testing in Malaysia

Hepatitis CDiagnostic Self Evaluation

Self-testing with easy-to-use rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) has been successfully used for diseases such as HIV. The availability of self-testing has been shown to increase testing rates and testing acceptability in diverse populations around the world, in large part due to its convenience and privacy advantages. Self-testing has also been effectively used to reach key populations who may not be covered by traditional healthcare programs, such as persons who inject drugs and men who have sex with men. In Malaysia, HIV self-testing has been shown to have moderate to high levels of acceptability, depending on the population, test used, and test delivery framework. In the present study we aim to evaluate the acceptability and impact of an online program enabling home-based hepatitis C virus (HCV) self-testing in Malaysia.

HCV Self-testing in Georgia

Hepatitis CDiagnostic Self Evaluation

Self-testing with easy-to-use rapid diagnostic tests has been successfully used for diseases such as HIV. The availability of self-testing has been shown to increase testing rates and testing acceptability in diverse populations around the world, in large part due to its convenience and privacy advantages.7 Self-testing has also been effectively used to reach key populations who may not be covered by traditional healthcare programs, such as persons who inject drugs (PWID) and men who have sex with men (MSM). In Georgia, HIV self-testing has been offered to MSM through an online platform promoting their uptake.11-12 In the present study aims to evaluate the acceptability and impact of using an online platform to enable home delivery of HCV self-testing in Georgia for PWID and MSM.

Future Destinations: Journeys Towards Citizenship

Hepatitis CDrug Use

Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), if left untreated it can lead to chronic liver disease, cirrhosis and cancer. HCV is a blood borne virus, the key risk group for HCV infection are those who currently inject drugs, or have done in the past. For many years the treatment of chronic HCV infection was based on therapies that had significant side effects, long treatment period and were between 50-70% effective, this impacted on patient acceptability and compliance. However, for those completing the treatment and undergoing this "personal trial" literature describes the transformative experience of HCV cure and how people took steps towards a "normal life" moving beyond substance use. Recent advances in Direct-Acting Antiviral (DAA) medicines available to cure HCV have transformed treatment with shorter treatment periods, few side effects, ease of administration and improved efficacy. However, there is a potential paradox, in that the DAA-based regimes provide a reliable cure, for a large majority of patients, with a relatively small treatment burden, but may not be a "personal trial" and may have a lesser impact on rehabilitation and recovery from substance use. The success of attempts of the group cured of HCV with DAAs, to progress down a recovery pathway and to resume activities thought of as being part of normal citizenship, are therefore unclear. This study will examine the types of activities that people cured of HCV undertake and the success of their recovery pathway, post-treatment with DAAs over a two year follow-up period.

Association of Hepatitis C Virus With Breast Cancer

Breast CancerHepatitis C

Hepatitis C viral infection is a major health problem in Egypt. The management of breast cancer patients is often complicated by the presence of associated HCV infection. This study aims at investigating the epidemiological association of the two conditions. It will also investigate the possible correlation with treatment outcome.

Prohepcidin, Inflammation and Iron Homeostasis in Hemodialysis Patients With Chronic Hepatitis C...

Renal Failure Chronic Requiring HemodialysisHepatitis C

The aim of this study is to address questions regarding the link among hepcidin, hematological iron markers, inflammation and hepatitis C in HD patients. In attempt to address this issue, we planned to measure serum levels of hepcidin prohormone (pro-hepcidin), inflammatory and iron parameters.

An Observational Study on Dual And Triple Therapies Based on Peginterferon Alfa (e.g. Pegasys) in...

Hepatitis CChronic

This prospective, multicenter, observational cohort study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of pegylated interferon alfa (peginterferon alfa) (e.g. Pegasys) plus ribavirin and treatment regimens containing direct-acting antivirals in participants with chronic hepatitis C who are treatment-naïve or treatment-experienced and HIV HCV co-infected. Data will be collected from participants receiving treatment according to current Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) and local labeling for the duration of their treatment and a 24-week follow-up.

Menopause is a Critical Factor in Determining Failure of Antiviral Therapy in Women With Chronic...

Chronic Hepatitis C

Menopause represents a critical period in a woman's life as the hormonal changes and the failing ovarian function not only determine relevant modifications in the reproductive function but also in many other conditions and organs that apparently are scarcely linked with hormones. The PI's centre has among its main goals the treatment of chronic liver disease; in the last years, a increasing interest in gender-related issues has grown. Goal of this study is to verify the impact of menopause on response to antiviral therapy for CHC and in determining more severe fibrosis in comparison with age-matched men. To achieve this goal a database of all the PEG IFN/Ribavirin patients treated in the GI Unit of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in the last 7 years will be set up. Demographic, clinical and biochemical data as well data regarding the reproductive history, time, type, length of estrogen deprivation and of hormone-replacement therapy will be collected.

Gilead Sustained Virologic Response (SVR) Registry

Hepatitis CChronic

This Registry is designed to provide long term clinical and virologic follow up in participants who have achieved sustained virologic response (SVR) while participating in a previous Gilead sponsored hepatitis C virus (HCV) study. This long term follow up study is observational and no treatment is provided for HCV.
