Autoimmune Hepatitis in Pediatric Patients

Autoimmune Hepatitis

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is an immune-mediated and inflammatory liver disorder. It is currently divided into types 1 and 2, differentiated and defined by the presence of specific autoantibodies. The objectives are to describe the prevalence and incidence of type 1 and 2 autoimmune hepatitis and to analyze the clinics, biochemical and histopathological profiles at diagnosis and follow-up, initial therapy, response to therapy and long-term follow-up in three Italian centers of patients with type 1 and type 2 AIH.

Hepatocyte-specific Versus Extracellular Contrast Agents for Liver MRI: Prospective, Intra-individual...

Chronic HepatitisLiver Cirrhosis

Adult patients with chronic hepatitis B and cirrhosis of any etiology who are found to have suspected liver cancer are potentially eligible for the study. All enrolled patients will undergo two MRI scans using two different contrast agents. The type of contrast agent for the 1st MRI will be performed using hepatocyte-specific contrast agent. The participant will undergo the 2nd MRI using extracellular contrast agent. The MRI examinations will be independently interpreted by two different radiologists. The radiologists will evaluate focal hepatic lesions and categorize them according to the LI-RADS v2018 and EASL 2018. Once the diagnosis is made, the participants will be provided with the standard of care. After the initial treatment, the participants will be followed up with multi-phasic dynamic contrast-enhanced CT every 3 or 6 months for at least 2 years. Based on the prospectively written radiology reports, the diagnostic performances will be calculated and compared between MRI with hepatocyte-specific contrast agent and MRI with extracellular contrast agent, using the pathology and clinical criteria as the reference standard.

Meta-Analysis of Drug Therapy in Patients With Severe Alcoholic Hepatitis

Alcoholic HepatitisAlcoholic Liver Disease

In the specific setting of the evaluation of corticosteroids, pentoxifylline of their combination in severe alcoholic hepatitis, only meta-analysis combining individual data is able to provide detailed information from each individual with severe alcoholic hepatitis assessed by a DF ≥ 32. The need for such an approach is confirmed by the fact that in both univariate and multivariate analyses, truth survival is lower for conclusions from meta-analysis of the literature than for conclusions derived from non-meta-analyses. The present study is a meta-analysis of individual data from RCTs restricted to patients with a DF ≥ 32. The primary endpoint will be to compare 28-day survival of patients receiving either corticosteroids, or pentoxifylline or their combination to those of patients not receiving them adjusted on the independent prognostic factors at baseline. The secondary endpoints will be: a) assessment of response to the assigned treatment using the Lille model; b) analysis of 6-month survival according to allocated therapy.
