The Pathogenesis of Hepatitis C Virus Vertical Transmission

Hepatitis CInfection Transmission1 more

To evaluate for the presence of HCV Core protein, HCV RNA and SPP in the placenta and fetal membranes using paraffin-embedded sections and post-delivery specimens respectively. In parallel, we will assess placental tissue for evidence of HCV infection using a novel in situ hybridization technique and translate our in vitro findings to these in vivo samples. Our overall hypothesis is that cytotrophoblasts at the maternal-fetal interface within the placenta serve as a "barrier" that must be crossed during vertical transmission and that cytotrophoblasts are permissive to HCV at a low level that may be enhanced under certain conditions. By comparing the regulation of key steps in the intracellular life cycle of HCV in cytotrophoblasts to highly permissive hepatocytes, significant differences in HCV regulation should be revealed. Based on our preliminary data, our working hypothesis is that HCV Core protein is differentially processed in cytotrophoblasts compared to hepatocytes.

Effects of Short-term Atorvastatin Treatment on Vaccination Efficacy in Nonresponder Persons to...

Hepatitis BVaccination Failure

The purpose of this study is to determine whether short-term Atorvastatin can increase the immunity response to hepatitis B vaccination in vaccine Nonresponders.

Hepatitis C

The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether the hepatitis C virus continues to remain unable to be detected in subjects who were previously treated with BMS-914143 and achieved sustained virologic response

HBV-associated Liver Transplant(LT) Patients by IV Injecting GC1102

Hepatitis B Infection

This is a clinical study for GC1102 to demonstrate preventing the recurrence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection following liver transplantation and a dose-finding study to determine its optional dose.

'Fibrosis in the Lost Hepatitis C Population - Track, Trace and Treat'

Chronic Hepatitis c

Objective: To coordinate active tracing of chronic hepatitis C patients lost to follow-up to inform them about there disease severity and treatment options. Study design: This is a prospective cohort study, which will start as a pilot study in the Radboudumc Population: lost to follow-up chronic hepatitis C patients in the region Nijmegen. This so-called lost population consists of all patients, that in the past have been identified at the Radboudumc but who are currently lost to or have been withdrawn from follow-up. The time-span of interest will be 2000-2015. We estimate that this project will retrace 100 lost patients through this search.

the Possible Effect of the Antiviral Inhibitors for Treatment of Hepatitis C Virus Infection in...

Hepatitis

It has been known for many years that the heart and the liver are intimately related. There is a mutual interaction between the function of the heart and the liver and a broad spectrum of acute and chronic entities that affect both the heart and the liver. Chronic hepatitis C virus infection affects more than 3% (170 million) of the world's population.

Seroprevalence Hepatitis E Infection in Healthy Blood Donors

Hepatitis E

This is a HEV seroprevalence in the health donors in the Canton Ticino study. The pre-donation sampling pouch of each blood donor coming form the Cantone Ticino region will be collected and tested for HEV serology (IgM and IgG).

Prevalence of IL28B Polymorphism in Hepatitis C Patients

Hepatitis C

Response to peginterferon and ribavirin treatment in hepatitis C (HCV) depends on viral and host factors. Single nucleotide polypmorphisms (SNP) near to IL28B gene (especially at rs12979860 and rs8099917) are strongly associated with the response to treatment in HCV genotype 1 infection, less so in HCV genotype 2/3 infection. CC genotype in rs12979860 and TT genotype at rs8099917 are associated with good treatment outcome. Asian populations have high prevalence of CC genotype in other studies, which can explain relatively good response to peginterferon/ ribavirin in genotype 1 infection in Asians compared with Caucasians.

Change of Glucose Metabolism and Fibrosis Markers in Patients With Hepatitis C Under Treatment With...

Glucose Metabolism DisordersLiver Fibrosis1 more

Chronic hepatitis C infection is associated with changes of glucose metabolism end increased frequency of impaired glucose tolerance. This might be a additional risk factor for disease and fibrosis progression. The study aims to evaluate whether a therapy with direct-acting antiviral agents leading to a sustained virologic response directly impacts parameters reflecting glucose metabolism and fibrosis.
