Bevacizumab and Chemoembolization in Treating Patients With Liver Cancer That Cannot Be Removed...

Liver Cancer

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemoembolization kills tumor cells by carrying chemotherapy drugs directly into the tumor and blocking the blood flow to the tumor. Giving bevacizumab together with chemoembolization may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving bevacizumab together with chemoembolization works in treating patients with liver cancer that cannot be removed by surgery.

Doxorubicin and Bortezomib in Treating Patients With Liver Cancer

Adult Primary Hepatocellular CarcinomaAdvanced Adult Primary Liver Cancer2 more

This phase II trial is studying how well giving doxorubicin together with bortezomib works in treating patients with liver cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as doxorubicin, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Bortezomib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for their growth. Giving doxorubicin together with bortezomib may kill more tumor cells.

Hepatic Arterial Infusion of Melphalan With Hepatic Perfusion in Treating Patients With Unresectable...

Cancer

RATIONALE: Hepatic arterial infusion uses a catheter to deliver anticancer substances directly into the liver. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as melphalan, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving drugs in different ways may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving an hepatic arterial infusion of melphalan together with hepatic perfusion works in treating patients with unresectable liver cancer.

Adult Primary Hepatocellular CarcinomaAdvanced Adult Primary Liver Cancer6 more

This phase II trial is studying how well lapatinib works in treating patients with locally advanced or metastatic biliary tract or liver cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. Lapatinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.

Cediranib Maleate in Treating Patients With Locally Advanced or Metastatic Liver Cancer

Adult Primary Hepatocellular CarcinomaAdvanced Adult Primary Liver Cancer1 more

AZD2171 (cediranib maleate) may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. This phase II trial is studying how well AZD2171 works in treating patients with locally advanced or metastatic liver cancer.

Efficacy and Safety Study of Bevacizumab and Erlotinib to Treat Primary Liver Cancer That Cannot...

Hepatocellular CarcinomaLiver Cancer

The primary objective will be to assess progression-free survival (PFS) measured at 16 weeks following initiation of therapy with the combination of Avastin and erlotinib in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Progression-free survival is defined as the time from initiation of therapy until documented disease progression or death. Secondary objectives include: response rate, median and overall survival, toxicity and tolerability, and to ascertain whether there is any correlation of response with prior treatment status and underlying HCC risk factor(s).

Colorectal NeoplasmsLiver Neoplasms

To see if Disease Free Survival (DFS) is improved when complete surgical resection of liver metastases (R0) is followed by chemotherapy with CPT-11 and 5-FU/FA as FOLFIRI regimen, compared to 5-FU/FA alone.

Colorectal CancerIslet Cell Tumor3 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving drugs in different ways may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well isolated hepatic perfusion with melphalan works in treating patients with primary unresectable liver cancer or liver metastases.

Combination Chemotherapy Plus Interferon Alfa Followed by Filgrastim in Treating Patients With Gastrointestinal...

Extrahepatic Bile Duct CancerGastric Cancer4 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Interferon alfa may interfere with the growth of cancer cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. Combining chemotherapy with interferon alfa may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining chemotherapy and interferon alfa followed by filgrastim in treating patients who have gastrointestinal tract cancer.

Thalidomide Plus Interferon Alfa in Treating Patients With Progressive Liver Cancer That Cannot...

Liver Cancer

Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of thalidomide plus interferon alfa in treating patients who have progressive liver cancer that cannot be surgically removed. Thalidomide may stop the growth of liver cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. Interferon alfa may interfere with the growth of the cancer cells. Combining thalidomide and interferon alfa may kill more tumor cells.
