Femoral FracturesFracture Fixation2 more

The aim of the study is to compare Tip-Apex Distance values in two groups of patients after intramedullary nailing of proximal femur. The first group of patients is operated with the help of a 3D reconstruction device connected to the standard fluoroscopy allowing the surgeon to visualize directly the exact position of the tip of the trans-cervical screw while the second group (which is the reference-group) is operated with the help of fluoroscopy alone.

Secondary Prevention of Osteoporotic Fractures in Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities

Hip FracturesOsteoporosis

Osteoporotic fractures of the hip are a major cause of admission to long-term care facilities. Such fractures put patients at high risk for further fractures, pain and disability. Current data show that many patients in long-term care facilities do not receive FDA medications for their osteoporosis. This trial will test whether a multi-model intervention (which provides feedback about provider use of osteoporosis medications, information about osteoporosis, and currently approved osteoporosis medications)directed at physicians, other health care providers, and nurses will improve the number of prescriptions written for FDA approved medications for osteoporosis treatment.

Tranexamic Acid in Chinese Elderly Patients With Intertrochanteric Fracture RCT

Fracture of Femur

Hip fracture posed a major challenge to the health care system, with the one-year mortality of hip fracture reported as being approximately 20%. Perioperative haemoglobin level was associated with functional level of the patient and even mortality. Different methods for administration of tranexamic acid had been described. It was well established that systemic administration of tranexamic acid could reduce perioperative blood loss and transfusion rate. Topical administration had been shown to decrease blood loss and transfusion rate. The objective of our study is to investigate the hypothesis that tranexamic acid will reduce blood loss and transfusion rate in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery.

Observation and Progressive Strength Training After Hip Fracture

Exercise

This is a randomized, controlled; single-blind parallel group trial carried out with hip fracture patients, starting at 12 weeks post fracture. Patients were approached during their acute stay in hospital, followed without any extra intervention for 12 weeks, and then randomized in a 2:1 manner to either intervention or control for the next 12 weeks. After the first 12 weeks intervention the intervention group were divided into two groups and randomized to an new single-blind parallel group trial for further intervention.

Preventing Loss of Weight, Fat Free Mass and Activities of Daily Living

Hip FractureArthrosis

Malnutrition of elder orthopaedic patients leads to weight loss and loss of fat free mass. Changes in the individual's nutritional status and body composition may adversely affect the patient's postoperative level of activity. Aim. Thus, the purpose of the present study is to report changes in postoperative weight, FFM and functions vital to daily living in a group of elder orthopaedic patients that were actively involved in their nutritional care during the hospital stay.
