Life Improving Factors After a Hip Fracture

Hip FracturesOlder Adults

The primary objective of the proposed research is to investigate the association between protein intake and nutritional status with bone health and physical functioning in older hip fracture patients. In addition, it will be investigated which patient characteristics and modifiable factors can predict mobility, clinical frailty, living situation and mortality. This study will be a 3-month prospective cohort study in adults aged 70 years and older with an acute hip fracture. This study will lead to knowledge about how protein intake and nutritional status in combination with patient characteristics can predict the degree of recovery (bone health and physical functioning) 3 months after the hip fracture. Knowledge on factors related to recovery can contribute to an improved and shorter rehabilitation in the future, which results in a reduction of health care costs.

Continuous Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block in Geriatric Hip Fracture

Hip FracturesAcute Pain Due to Trauma

The patient with hip fracture who has Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) ≥ 5 at rest or on movement will be indicated for USG FICB at Emergency Department or patient's ward. The aim of this prospective observation study was evaluated the efficacy and complications of cFICB in adult hip fracture preoperatively.

Trochanteric Fractures - How to Improve the Results of Reduction and Implant Positioning

Hip Fractures

This prospective study (including patients with an intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures type 31A1, 31A2 and 31A3) is to assess the effect of an educational intervention for operating surgeons with respect to an improvement of the quality of reduction and internal stabilisation of intertrochanteric fractures. A historic cohort of patients operated at the University Hospital Basel for an intertrochanteric fracture from 2014-2015 will be used for comparison.

Hip-Fracture Surgery on Patients in Clopidogrel Therapy

Hip Fracture

Patients in Clopidogrel therapy alone or in combination with acetylsalicylic acid (Dual Antiplatelet Therapy (DAPT) presenting with a hip-fracture represent the surgeon with the dilemma of putting the patient at risk of a major blood loss during and after surgery, or putting the patient at risk of a thromboembolic event after surgery. The investigators hypothesize that the risk of a major blood loss in patients that are still under the effect of Clopidogrel or DAPT during or after hip-fracture surgery is relatively low. The investigators have conducted a retrospective observational study on hip-fracture patients to test this hypothesis.
