At our institution, hip fracture patients are admitted and treated according to a fast track patient pathway. The aim of this study is to identify areas of this patient pathway that can be improved. To achieve this, the study will investigate the underlying reasons for the continued need for hospitalization on the consecutive days after hip fracture surgery.

Pelvic fracture urethral injuries (PFUI) occur in up to 10% of pelvic fractures. It remains controversial whether initial urethral realignment after PFUI decreases rates of urethral obstruction and the need for subsequent urethral procedures. The retrospective record review should determine the utility of acute urethral realignment after PFUI.

Hip fractures are associated with a large hidden blood loss. That is, the total blood loss associated with hip fracture surgery is much greater than that observed intra operatively. There is currently no viable method of identifying patients at risk of transfusion. The on admission haemoglobin level has been shown to be falsely reassuring . We are conducting a study of 200 consecutive hip fracture patients. Thrombelastography (TEG) is taken on admission. The results are blinded to clinicians. Results will be evaluated at the end of the study, comparing intra-operative and total blood losses with the TEG profile of the patient.

The purpose of the study is to evaluate how time from hospital admission to start of surgery influence mortality in patients with acute hip fracture. Data on patients with hip fracture surgery will be collected from the hospital's registration system and will be analyzed regarding age, gender, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status Classification, type of surgery and time from admission to surgery along with data on mortality.

165 patients admitted to two hospitals were included and short-time HRV measurements were obtained. Mortality data were gathered from the Norwegian central address register. Patients, close relatives of patients and in some cases their general physicians or nursery home physicians were interviewed six months postoperatively regarding the incidence of pneumonia, cardiac events or stroke.

Hip fracture surgery requires high risk anesthetic procedure for elderly patients (1). General anesthesia, continuous spinal anesthesia and peripheral nerve blocks are three anesthetic techniques possible. Continuous spinal anesthesia has proven its efficacity to provide an intraoperative haemodynamic stability wich guarantees good patients outcomes (2), in comparison with general anesthesia but there is poor evidence in the literature concerning the use of peripheral nerve blocks. The primary objective of this study was to compare intraoperative haemodynamic stability provides by peripheral nerve block versus general anesthesia and continuous spinal anesthesia. Secondary outcomes included : use of vasoactive drugs, opioids consumption, lengh of stay and inhospital mortality.

The investigators will use multilevel multivariable regression analysis to measure the association of sex with provision of guideline-based perioperative care for hip fracture surgery in Ontario.

This study aim to describe the presence, type and size of Corona mortis (CMOR) in patients undergoing total extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair procedures. This study also aim to describe the preperitoneal vascular anatomy of inguinal area and provide in vivo knowledge about CMOR.

Patients over the age of 65 who are admitted to the Juravinski Hospital for treatment of hip fractures will be invited to take part in the study. An activity monitor (a Fitbit® Alta HR) will be attached to the participant post-operatively, to record quality of sleep and amount of activity for the duration of hospital stay. The time spent in hospital and whether complications or confusion develops will also be recorded. The aim is to determine whether poor sleep affects recovery after hip fracture surgery.

Pelvic fracture are very often treated by surgery ; however there are a high level of thrombotic risk during the surgery (venous thrombo embolic events represent about 10% to 50%. The aim of our study is to report the number of these events and identify the risk factor associated to these events regarding Greenfield Risk Assessment Profile .
