Outcome Evaluation of Minority AIDS Initiative Programs in the New York EMA

HIV Infections

This outcome evaluation effort provides the opportunity to learn what programmatic approaches effectively address two of the most difficult hurdles in HIV health services delivery: (1) getting people who would benefit from health care to use it and (2) getting people who do use health care to do so more consistently and effectively. The New York HIV Planning Council (through MHRA) has funded 23 agencies to achieve these objectives for people of color with HIV disease.

Safety and Effectiveness of the Drug DPC 083 in Combination With Nucleoside Analogue Reverse Transcriptase...

HIV Infections

The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and tolerability of the study drug DPC 083 combined with 2 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) in HIV-infected patients who are failing their nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) treatment. In some studies DPC 083 (an NNRTI) has been found to lower the amount of HIV in the blood (viral load), where drug-resistant types of HIV were not lowered by other NNRTIs. This study will attempt to determine how safe DPC 083 is when it is taken in combination with 2 NRTIs.

Safety and Effectiveness of TRIZIVIR (Abacavir/Lamivudine/Zidovudine) With Efavirenz in HIV-Infected...

HIV Infections

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of treatment with Trizivir (TZV) plus efavirenz (EFV) or TZV alone on viral load (level of HIV in the blood).

Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Hodgkin's Disease and HIV Infection

Lymphoma

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of two combination chemotherapy regimens in treating patients with Hodgkin's disease and HIV infection.

Safety and Effectiveness of Giving CPI-1189 to HIV-Infected Patients With AIDS Dementia

HIV Infections

The purpose of this study is to see if it is safe and effective to give CPI-1189 to patients with AIDS dementia. Advanced HIV infection can cause AIDS dementia (brain damage due to HIV leading to loss of memory and muscle control). CPI-1189 may be able to postpone AIDS dementia or slow it down.

Safety and Effectiveness of Adding Adefovir Dipivoxil and Nelfinavir to the Anti-HIV Therapy of...

HIV Infections

The purpose of this study is to see if it is safe and effective to give adefovir (a new anti-HIV drug) plus nelfinavir to HIV-infected children who are already receiving other anti-HIV medications.

Differences Between Women and Men Taking a Combination of Indinavir, Ritonavir, Enteric-Coated Didanosine,...

HIV Infections

The purpose of this study is to see how safe and effective it is to give multi-drug treatment with indinavir (IDV) plus ritonavir (RTV) plus enteric-coated didanosine (ddI) plus stavudine (d4T) and if there are differences in responses between men and women.

Effectiveness and Safety of Epivir/Ziagen/Zerit (3TC/ABC/d4T) Versus Epivir/Ziagen/Sustiva (3TC/ABC/EFV)...

HIV Infections

The purpose of this study is to see how effective and safe it is to give 1 of the 3 following treatments to patients who may not have received anti-HIV treatment: 1) lamivudine (3TC)/abacavir (ABC)/stavudine (d4T); 2) 3TC/ABC/efavirenz (EFV); or 3) 3TC/ABC/amprenavir (APV)/ritonavir (RTV).

Symptom Management Efficacy Study to Reduce Distal Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic PainHIV Neuropathy2 more

Distal sensory peripheral neuropathy (DSP) is a chronic, debilitating painful condition affecting quality of life in persons living with HIV. Treatments prescribed to manage DSP pain, such as nonnarcotic and narcotic analgesics, antidepressants and anticonvulsants, are largely ineffective. In HIV there are no FDA-approved drugs for this indication. This study assesses in a randomized controlled clinical trial, the efficacy of novel non-pharmacologic pain management approaches to reduce HIV-related DSP pain and improve quality of life.

Same-day Antiretroviral Therapy With BIC/F/TAF

HIV Infections

WHO had recommened rapid ART initiation, defined as starting ART within 7 days or on the same day after HIV diagnosis, to improve HIV care continuum. Prior studies revealed that point-of-care diagnostic methods for the detection of HIV RNA can accelerate linkage to care and reduce anxiety. By shortening the interval between infectious disease physician referral, time-lag between screening and confirmatory tests, with the use of the newly developed point-of-care immunochromatographic confirmatory test, initiating a safe and potent antiretroviral therapy, BIC/F/TAF, on the same day of HIV confirmation will be feasible to improve linkage to care and to shorten the interval between HIV diagnosis and viral suppression.
