Huntington's Disease

The aim of this study is to measure the availability of the PDE10A enzyme in Huntington disease gene expansion carriers (HDGECs) using the recently developed radioligand [18F]MNI-659. The study will be cross-sectional, examining HDGECs at different stages of the disease (pre-manifest, stage 1 and stage 2), in comparison with Healthy Controls (HCs). The HDGECs included in this study will be recruited from the large database of the REGISTRY (NCT01590589) or ENROLL-HD (NCT01574053) studies.

The aim of this study is to measure longitudinally the availability of the PDE10A enzyme in HDGECs using the radioligand [18F]MNI-659. The study will be a follow-up, examining HDGECs from the CHDIKI1201/PET-HD-PDE10A (NCT02061722) study from 18 to 28 months after the initial PET measurement.

Huntington's Disease

Huntington's disease is a rare genetic neurodegenerative disease. It is accompanied by movement disorders, cognitive and behavioral. The social behavior of patients are changed, affecting interpersonal relationships. Patients with Huntington's disease are described as self-centered, lacking sympathy and empathy and mentally inflexible. These behavioral problems can be a major source of anxiety for patients and their families. These disorders also have a negative impact cognitive and motor symptoms as well as the functional abilities and the quality of life of patients and their entourage. Authors have suggested that these problems could be related inter alia to social cognition disorders. This concept refers to a set of skills and emotional and social experiences that regulate relations between individuals and can explain the behavior of individuals and groups. The objective is to evaluate disorders of social cognition, which may account for behavioral changes in Huntington's disease.

Energy Balance in Huntington's Disease. A Multidisciplinary Study Approach for a Complex Problem...

The study was conducted at the University Isabel I, Burgos in collaboration with the Hospital Universitario Burgos, Spain, through the creation of a multidisciplinary research team including graduates in physical activity and sports sciences, dietitians-nutritionists, neurologists and occupational therapists. To carry out this study: 1) the investigators used new technologies, specifically, small wearable or wearable devices available to the population. These devices measure their daily behaviour and estimate aspects such as energy expenditure, validated both in healthy participants and in participants with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, but not in HD; 2) the investigators included a consecutive sample of patients with HD ; 3) the investigators performed the experimental study at the the laboratory for Exercise Physiology, Health and Quality of Life at the Isabel I University. The hypothesis proposed by this study are the following: 1) Patients with HD who present an adequate energy balance caused by healthier lifestyles (active lifestyles and healthy eating) will present a better functional capacity, quality of life and therefore both less dependency; 2) HD patients with a balanced energy balance maintain adequate body composition (muscle, fat); 3) Adequate body composition is associated with better functional capacity in HD patients.

Decoding Presymptomatic White Matter Changes in Huntington Disease

WIN-HD is a monocentric longitudinal study comparing premanifest Huntingtin (HTT) mutation carriers and non HTT mutation carriers to determine that white-matter atrophy occurs far earlier than clinical onset in HD using Diffusion-weighted Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (N spectroscopy (DWS) and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI). The investigators will recruit up to 20 premanifest HTT mutation carriers (15 completed) and up to 20 non HTT mutation carriers (15 completed). It is important to have those 2 populations in order to compare our results and determine if there are significant white-matter changes far from the onset of HD. Therefore, non HTT mutation carriers will be age and gender matched to premanifest HTT mutation carriers. In order to test the hypothesis, the study has 2 visits with a year interval.
