MR Spectroscopy as a Diagnostic and Outcome Measure in Pain and SCI
Spinal Cord InjuryHyperalgesia2 moreThe goal of this study is to compare the changes that occur in sensation and chemical properties of the brain following SCI between individuals that experience chronic pain and those that do not, and between those with SCI and the able-bodied.
Hyperalgesia and NMDA Receptor Antagonist
PainNMDA receptor is administered and postoperative remote hyperalgesia is investigated.
Effect of High-dose Naloxone Infusion on Pain and Hyperalgesia in Patients Following Groin-Hernia...
Central Nervous System SensitizationPain1 moreRecent studies have focused on the role of endogenous opioids on central sensitization. Central sensitization is known to be impaired or altered in chronic pain conditions, as fibromyalgia or chronic tension headache. Animal studies have shown reinstatement of mechanical hypersensitivity following naloxone administration after resolution of an injury. This suggests latent sensitization. In the present study, investigators hypothesize that a high-dose target-controlled naloxone infusion (total dose: 3.25 mg/kg) can reinstate pain and hyperalgesia 6-8 weeks after a unilateral primary open groin hernia repair procedure. Investigators aim to show that latent sensitization is present in humans and is modulated by endogenous opioids.

PainPostoperative1 morePurpose: To compare the incidence of postoperative hyperalgesia induced by remifentanil in patients undergoing gynecological laparoscopic surgery in plateau and plain areas To compare the peri-operative analgesic requirements of patients in plain and plateau areas
GentleCath Air (Urinary Self-catheterization) - Pain in Female Patients With Neurological Vesico-sphincter...
Spinal Cord InjuriesMultiple Sclerosis2 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the rate of occurrence of urethral pain in female patients with neurological vesico-sphincter disorders whilst performing self-catheterization using GentleCath™ Air catheters.
Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor Participates in Visceral Hyperalgesia in Irritable Bowel Syndrome...
Irritable Bowel SyndromeBrain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), originally known to be a member of the nerve growth factor family, has aroused attention as a modulator in visceral hyperalgesia recently. Visceral hypersensitivity is recognized as a clinical hallmark in IBS patients. So in this study, the investigators will focus on the role of BDNF in colonic hyperalgesia in IBS patients.
Validation of a Questionnaire for Allodynia in Migraine.
MigraineMigraine is very frequent (15% of the general population). During attacks, many subjects with migraine have allodynia (pain induced by normally non-painful stimuli), photophobia (hypersensitivity to light), phonophobia (hypersensitivity to sound) or osmophobia (hypersensitivity to odours). The goal of the present study is to validate a new questionnaire made of 4 parts evaluating the presence of these 4 types of hypersensitivity, both during or between migraine attacks. It will allow to look for associations of these 4 symptoms and association of hypersensitivity with patients' or migraine's characteristics.
